Lots of interesting staysails and yankee headsails there. I have one of those low cut downwind staysails I will have to give it a go one day.

Wow - thanks for that - what a great movie. I sailed Caprice once (friends owned her when I was a kid) hard on the wind on starboard tack out of Pittwater in a nor easter. What a feeling.

i have tried tall boys low cut staysails inside the kite and find they work ok but not as well as the blooper

Here Is an interesting article on bloopers. sailingmagazine.net/article-1422-memories-of-a-sail-that-lived-up-to-its-name-in-every-way.html
i liked the comment that broaching was just another point of sail on a IOR boat

I think that's a big exaggeration. I do remember broaches, and they weren't fun, but bloopers were good. Yachts broach today too. Crew skill is part of the equation.

I love the footage of going around Fastnet with yellow plastic wet weather gear, we're all soft.

i think you hit the nail on the head when you said ior down wind in breeze nightmare . pagan is an RORC flat sections aft never broaches but the blooper helps stabilize death roll out enabling you to run very deep without rhythmic roiling taking over . We experienced this first hand earlier in the season while running in 25 to 30 with the 3/4 kite and big blooper set cruising at about 10 knots when the tack of the blooper sheared off the boat immediately started rolling boat speed dropped back to 8 the guys had the small blooper set within a couple of minutes and speed climbed back to 9 to 10 .
one of the crew also owns a seabird and was in the process of ordering full new sail wardrobe and his response was i am definitely getting a blooper
