I'm scanning the market for a 12v pump to use as on deck with SALT WATER.

I was thinking of buying a $250 Jabsco Par Max deck wash pump until I read some reviews on Amazon and an overseas boat forum with some owners finding the thing fails through rust in less than 12 months, in one case repeatedly.

I also see that Bias Boating gives you a 3 yr warranty, but ONLY if you stick to fresh water.

So if any forum reader has experience or knowledge of true SALT WATER capable 12v pumps that can push water at 40psi or more I'd be much obliged to hear about them.

I believe the Shur pumps are good for fresh or salt water but don't take my word for it.

I will have a deck wash pump fitted soon. The cruising bucket, dunked and maybe filled just does not do it for me when pulling the anchor and chain out of mud.

I'd like to get a feel for how durable deck wash pumps are. Anyone have experience of using one of with salt water for more than two-three years?

it is nice while your pulling up the anchor to hose the chain off

The trick is to mount it vertical with the motor upper most.

Keeps the water away from the electrics!

yeah that's the one I was looking at hayden, it seemed to have a good psi of 70psi.. haven't bought it yet.. going broke traveling in the U.S for the moment but when I get back to Aus, deck wash pump, new solar panel and drying out on legs is top of the list.. must say im missing my boat would rather be on the water sailing than traveling around with the land lubbers.

Where is the best place to mount the pumps and is the salt water inlet connected aft of one of the existing salt water seacocks (ike the toilet inlet seacock) or is it a hose thrown over the side.

To provide one answer to my questions above, Cisco, how do you propose to set up the deck wash pump on Second Wind as I now have some familiarity with it.

The pump will most likely be mounted in the locker above the V berth where the life jackets are stored. The sea suction will come from the skin fitting and sea cock that will replace the through hull fitting that currently houses the paddle wheel transducer for the defunct VDO (Venereal Diseased Odometer) Log. The discharge fitting and cock will come through either the aft or starboard bulkhead of the anchor locker OR I may get rid of that silly dorade vent on the starboard side, fit a PiHi round scew hatch there and have the short length of hose with gun nozzle just below it.

What think ye of that little rearrangement????
