Hi guys
This mast head was fitted to my main mast and Id like to tidy it up any thoughts Gentlemen
Id say Ill fit a combo LED mast light so the existing rear mounting bracket thinking of using it for a aerial mounting
the wind speed will go also

Ive never been as fan of wind telltails on mast heads but should I add a new one if someone else is sailing photo below

Thanks in advance

My boom lift( cant think of the correct name right now is external
Might try fitting it inside the mast
Might be one less tick tick all night
While trying to sleep or some one else on a boat next to you

HG i fitted a simple topping lift which saves returning from top of mast
Its an old trap wire from A Class
Attaches to mast head and the adjustable trap end attaches to end of boom where the appropriate adjustment is made
I have no problem using it with both slab and roller reefing
it never makes a sound
cheap , easy , functional and preserves masthead real estate

Great idea, have also fitted one with a small 'Y' bridle at the rear of the boom and then it ran fwd along the boom so it can be adjusted at the mast when reefing. The bridle also gave 2:1 which meant it was easier to adjust by hand.

HGO2, I would also suggest replacing both sheaves with nylatron/acetal ones. Measure up and contact Allyacht spars in QLD and they will make fairly cheaply.

Seems you have your mind set on TRI colour ligts HO2 so I rest my case!

I'm very happy my previous 28 footer , 37 footer and now my 42 footer did not carry TRIs I like it simple with just a VHF , Anchor light and windex.

Ill use a coat hanger
It reminds me of a miner who ordered
Coat hang that you could put ten coats on one hanger so he sent away for it
When it arrived and he inpacked the large box all he found was a 8 inch nail

HG what is that stainless strip extension about? Thing on the end?

Looks like you have had some dissimilar metals corrosion where the split pins were rubbing on the alloy. Maybe some insulating washers, or at least a washer with Duralac under it, in these positions when you do the re-build.

Yes yarra your spot on mate
Ive yet to free the split pins ill start on them tonight
I think the windex was hung on that s/s strip
Yara not really needed i dont think
Ill keep sandind till dark then start on the nast head
The mizzen has a rust steel seagull preventor on its mast head bit of character
Ill remove it just the same
One more thing hayliard rope soze was thinking
6 mm maybe 8 mm not very wide pullies on the mast head

WRT halliard size, for all rope, like I said on another thread today, life is a compromise. Larger diameter is easier on the hands and more strength, but more windage. If twer me, I would look up the breaking strain of the wire diameter to be replaced, and use a new rope with the same breaking strain.

To be technically correct, I should use the term force, rather than strain, but you know what I mean.
