Over here in the UK, Autumn is definitely here. it's getting colder but I've still not put the heating on.
We're hovering above 10 degrees. I think it might have been as warm as 14 degrees earlier.
that's pretty much summer time. I've still not moved on from t-shirts to thermals yet. I'm still living in my own fantasy world despite the clocks changing.
anyway , I'm supposed to be working on my masters degree, hence why I keep vanishing from the general chat.
but I'm so easily distracted. As part of my degree research I'm looking at regional dialogue and languages etc.
After a few conversations recently about my ability to swear in any given situation I couldn't help but write another blog post which talks about the language of yachties. How we can say one thing, but it might mean something else.
it is pretty much full of sturdy language so anyone that might be offended, then it's not for you.

I'm still moored up in Southampton, UK. So if any of you lot happen to find yourselves in the area for some bizarre reason (why would you leave a warm country for one filled with "pi*sy damp mist wafting around aimlessly" to quote a friend), do come and say hello and distract me further from my work.
it's fairly industrial, but not completely terrible place to be: (see pic)
Had a couple of days in Southampton last year before boarding a cruise ship for the Med. I rather liked the place. It was cool and windy but there were yachts out actually sailing. Rarely saw yachts sailing in the Med even though the weather was great. The marinas were all full though and there was the odd yacht motoring about.
ok, spoke too soon.
I got home to my boat today, greeted with 5 degrees on the thermometer.
time to think about heating. only think about it mind. I'm not going to be too hasty.
You can pick the the Brits in Perth.
Howling westerly, 10 degrees (which is solid winter weather here) and ol mate's going windsurfing in his budgie smugglers. Not cold at all.
Meanwhile all the Aussies are peering out of their windscreens waiting for a polar bear to wonder past.
I lived in the UK for a few years, and thought it was the worst weather imaginable.
Till I got off a plane in Finland where it was -29c, utterly mad those Finns.
my mate has booked for us to go dog sledding in norway in early feb. we'll be sleeping in a tent.
she said how cheap it was to fly there.
i said, that's because nay begger wants to go there, its -20 and dark.
i am absolutely amazed that people will sail in climates like that though i love all water sports and surf swim and sail year round its easy when the water temp doesn't drop under 19 and can hit 28 in summer
you have my admiration
