What do you think of this as an extra help to catch bumps in open ocean water ? On sup and maybe prone ?? Do you think it would work ?
What do you think ? Stupid idea ?

boostsurfing.com/#how

We all know Efoil right now are only good for cruising on flat water, those are way too heavy to be efficent in DW. But I really think something that would help to catch any bumps would makes things way easier for DW, especially for average rider or for people that don't know hoe to use a paddle.
Think, just like some Electric bike, just this extra push when you need it.

Can you imagine the potentiel !! Off course it might be far away from the true spirit of the sport but for me it would be at least better than seeing people getting towned by jet ski to go DW.

yeah... no. typical kickstarter style bull**** - we'll develop this based on the renderings and try to hit the specs once everyone pre-orders it. Oh, but we might figure out along the way that the battery life of 2hrs worked out to be 8 minutes, and the top speed is 3mph on a real surfboard. But that's ok, because we already have everyone's pre-order money.

It's actually being developed pretty hard to get away from the weight the battery alone is the killer . See how they come out . Lift have a folding prop for Downwinding which I've tried , very tricky with feet position when you shut off the gas . Your whole body is wrong from leaning against the torque of the prop , to then balance on the push of the swell . I'm sure with practice you'll get it. Another efoil company is working on a unit where you can move the motor from the fuselage to up under the board .

Well actually I'm not only talking about this brand, the idea of the post is alos to talk about the general idea of having a small/light weight engine to give a extra power to catch a small bump even on a prone board or on a sup without a good paddling skill.

There is a brand scuba jet I think they are called who have a unit that weighs 3kg maybe a bit less and has more than enough power to help push up, I had a meeting with them 2 years ago about the same idea but we're a little blinded by going just like the efoil style, they can and seen me a few weeks ago as well and really only now have the unit ready for sale but still a little hard to get any real info out of and not overly caring about people wanting to DW. I think it will work fine and just need to install a new fun box for it as it fits nicely into a standard long board box.

I don't DW, but I think a motor less solution could be to just use a different paddle: The single blade SUP paddle seems a limiting factor.

Foot pedals or oars may not be practical, but a kayak-style double paddle, maybe adapted to a standing position, could be the extra boost needed...
angusrowboats.com/blogs/news/a-speed-comparison-of-kayaks-rowboats-canoes-sups-and-pedal-boats

This and maybe some kind of "wing suit" to help get pushed by the wind?

The idea is actually to take off even without wind jsut on swell, so i would say no need for a wing suit. Double blade, I really don't think it will help. For lifting on a small bumps it is a quick powerfull boost that you need.

You'd be stylin in your wing suit and double ended paddle Colas Picking up a bump is more technique than anything else and that's the hardest part for punters to learn , so it's just not paddle power or wind assist , however a motor would help tremendously as you need to put the power on when you slide off the back of a bump to lift the foil in the trough , not the other way around and try and catch it like a wave in front. What Frenchfoiler is talking about is a lighter version of something like this with a jet foil attached. This rig is still 23kg though would still need to halve that.

Hah cool. The problem is the drag on the foil from the motor causing the foil to not perform efficiently.

The key imho is to get the motor onto the bottom of the board or on the mast below the board. Use it to get boost to get up onto the wave then once foil lifts, turn off the power. Motor assisted downwinder or sup foil tiny waves.

Could have battery in a back pack. Or like the guy in Maui....embedded in board.

You build it, if it works i'll buy one (if cheap of course lol)

I agrree, the motor needs to be on the board or close.

I remember that one..

I think the stated aim was just to help him paddle out due to cooked shoulders or similar.

would have to help a bit in wave catching, but the weight would be nearly fatal to the experience.

I put in money for x2 Boosted Fins. The electronic wiz's on the efoil forum believe the numbers add up.

Plus I love a good scam as well.

hehe, pains me to admit I fell for it too. I think they ship in May, so it'll be interesting to see what's what. I intend to attach to my mast somehow, to test it out. If it works, then possibly add a fin mount towards tail of board.

Looks like June now for shipping...

I plan to mount mine on my board and
I bought two to see if they can zip me out to the line up faster...or catch a DW runner...or with a bit of paddling and pumping do a flatwater start.

Zane from they Blue Planet got up with the Scubajet @44 pounds of thrust. He is about 130 pounds.

One Boosted Fin delivers 20 pounds of thrust. So two would be 40 pounds of thrust.

I have read that 80 pounds of thrust will get an efoiler up and going with a bit of pumping quite easily.

I'm no engineer so this is all guesswork.

Sweet...will sure be fun to try. My hope is to catch those waves you paddle super hard for just can't quite make ... which could open up spots where the swells stand up but don't ever break. Outside reefs.

Here is the latest clip from Boosted. Way less lamer than I imagined

I bought two. I have two fin boxes on each side of my foil. Wondering what they are capable of?

Interesting idea for that extra bit of help. Are they ok with the motors running when out of the water? It would be great if they could be turned off when you are flying. I guess you could do that from the remote.

There are two modes.

8 second boost to catch a wave.

20 second boost to paddle out.

The motor doesn't run all the time.

I have two fin box's. Not sure it will work.

Eventually someone will come up with something that will work. Enough thrust to get you up on the foil without pumping your legs too hard and without the weight of the heavy efoils.

Still don't know how successful it will be with a foil I just think the drag won't let you up on the foil , might be wrong interesting to see how it goes . My last wing ding session after I crashed I quickly got back on the board and realised the leggie was around the mast , as it was blowing 20kts I didn't worry about it as I thought I'd just pop up....... I could not get the board to foil with just one wrap of the leg rope around the mast even in that strong wind . So it doesn't take much drag to hold you down .

I have been emailing with owner about foiling application. Of course, he immediately thought efoil but when I explained to him that one would be trying to get on foil with a paddle or wing and the Boost would just supplement that effort, he understood and told me he would get someone to try it. No news yet.

Stupid idea maybe ... Why not trying with putting the motorized fin at the end of a paddle.
