I just had 5 days up the coast foiling some pretty long point breaks that thanks to Cyclone OMA are great for foiling but not as perfect as you would expect for surfing due to a lot of sand being sucked out & some holes in the lineup...
Interested to see who uses what GPS app & how accurate they think it is....
I used my Rip Curl GPS watch a couple of times but found it broke up my wave when i pumped out onto my second & third waves... it broke them up into individual rides (bummer because one ride alone was from Snapper to the inside of the Kirra groyne... I then stoped my watch for the 2km walk back)
I then used an app on my I-Watch called Dawn Patrol which didn't break my waves up even when I pumped onto multiple waves (again i turned it off for the walk back to the Point)
I used my GoFoil IWA for all the sessions on either my Jimmy Lewis Flying V 5'11 SUP or 5'4" SuperFly...
I seemed to record higher speeds on my I-Watch also...
Anyway keen for feedback...
2 sessions at Snapper below-

2 sessions at The Pass-

Hi, I've been using a Garmin watch with Connect IQ app. It records similar mapping as well as a complete analysis of each session.

What garmin iq app are you running? Surf tracker 2 or something else?

I've spent 3 Years tracking with TRACE UP. 1,000's of waves. It was the best GPS I have found. Recorded at 5 hertz (5 times per second) vs others at 1 time every second or 2 seconds.

The RipCurl watches SUCK. IF only because they read speed low. We typically found them 20% slower than the TRACE. Not fun when comparing with friends. We would come off the water and laugh at how slow the Rip Curl guys were going, then realized it was the technology.

The Dawn Patrol on iWatch is a close 2nd to the Trace. Spend $300 on the app and get a free iWatch (the app is actually free). Great deal. I have tracked 100's of waves using the TRACE vs iWatch and they are nearly spot on.

I would love it if TRACE continued but there run seems to have ended. I am still searching for an equivalent replacement for the TRACE.

Hi Beasho,
I think you are right... the Dawn Patrol on my I-Watch is wayyyy more accurate.... Today I foiled my local break with a lot of shorter waves & combo waves & it pretty well picked up everything...
