For a board, something in the 5' - 6' range with heaps of volume. 790 might be on the smallish side for prone at your weight (starting out).
If you're on the surf coast side, there are som many options....Addis, Roadknight, Anglesea, Ocean Grove beachies, W end 13th....a million places on the right day down the coast. I haven't lived over there for a long time, but it's target rich.
Peninsula side, definitely some goers in Westernport, opportunistic beachies on the Gunna-Portsea stretch...Port Phillip Bay around Mornington in the big fronts. Phillip Island.....

Thanks mate. So would you suggest the 873 or the 1100?
Also board size is a 156x50x70 42l okay?

That'll work, before long you'll want to go shorter but that's a prime first board.
Maybe the 873. It's big enough to fly easily and pump and pretty fast for its size. Moses has a lot of options for later when you want to get freaky, even if they are targeted at kite and WS applications.

42 Litres, that's pretty low imo - if your 105kg.
Or did I totally miss-read this
My 65 kg daughter started on 5'0 41 liter board. That was a good size to catch small waves.
I would say get a 5'6 55 liter unless you want to struggle .

Thanks

Depends on your age/paddle fitness - what volume surfboard do you usually ride?

Yeh, 55ish L should be fine - try to go 2nd hand as once addicted you will loose weight from all the paddling & want a smaller board

My Prone foilboard is 5'5'' @ 70 litres she's a Gem of a board, paddles like a machine & you can Duck-Dive her.
At the moment I'm like 93kg and I'm very close to 60yo - when I'm in training mode I'm like 83/85kg.
Remember Duff15 at 105kg volume is your friend when you are a heavyweight. The blokes who are like 75kg to 65kg featherweights those blokes can foil a foilboad thats under 40 litres with no worries.
There's a couple of guys in the Burleigh Heads area in their early 20's & 30's that are featherweights and they are ripping on the prone foilboard around the 4'0'' mark that are under 40 litres & they are ripping on them guys like ibis, Greg & Matt.
This is my 5'5'' @ 70 litres I'm making a 5'0'' @ 63 litres But I can't see me going any smaller than 5ft as I like my knees on the Prone Foilboard.

How about this one, might speed up the learning curve. Will a moses 873 front wing be big enough?
First session absolutely wrecked. No flight but close. Very happy with the volume. Not ideal conditions strong cross shore winds. The foil is very influenced by rips/tide and current. Need to work on getting my foot to the sweet spot.
Was using a 82 mast but kept hitting sand banks. Would i be better off with a 71 or 61?
Any Vic members keen for a session?
Cheers
Yes definitely 100% learn on a shorter mast 61cm .
Thanks mate was thinking that was the case.
Very nice rig...Imo, 70-75cm mast is the sweet spot for prone - you will be breeching way too much on the 61.

Thanks mate they arnt cheap so i want to get one that will work when i am progressing
Hi Duff15.
Check your messages for a 71cm Moses mast for sale.
Hey mate the 71 is a kite mast. Wont work on a 873 wing (too flexible) i need the 72 reinforced surf mast. Cheers
Second session in the water. Got a very small glide thrown off and the foil smashed me in the head (nice looking lump on my head now) so much harder Than first thought. Nothing like learning something new

This is why we advise to abandon the hope of having to buy your foiling gear only once. You need to get specific gear for the learning. Granted, you would not keep it very long, but otherwise you will end up extending hugely the learning phase, which is the most dangerous one.
This is not directed towards you, but rather to the growing number of people we see asking for gear advice but not wanting to start with a learning setup (easy and stable) and resell it later to get more advanced gear.

Yea understandable. If i had a 45l board i would really struggle to float. Im on a 6foot 65l board. Easy to paddle and holds my 105kg fat ass. Im finding it hard to find the right waves (just paddling into white water at the moment) Funny how a foot wave can have so much power (kinda scary)

The problem i see with the market is not big boards. Took me ages to find a big prone board. They are all around the 45l mark. Prob good of you weigh 70kg
Finally had my first glide "best feeling ever" got a few questions.
Really struggling with underwater currents. I catch a wave and the paddle back near about kills me. Im using a low aspect wing. Even when i get to the sweet spot just maintaining that position requires consistent paddling. Any advice would be great.

What I see is people getting on longer (7+) boards, but with ultralight tips (light, pulled in nose especially. Wide noses push water when paddling, and catch wind in flight), if they have to paddle back to the the peak.
People use micro boards when they have the technique and physique to pump back to the peak. Otherwise you have to find the best compromise for you.
Disclaimer: I don't prone surf foil.

Not sure to understand. If it is the paddle back that bother you, well you need to get used to it, but a thick board with recess deck and nice round bottom nose will help with the paddling part. Not easy to find those boards in the market I agree.

Maybe find a spot with less current?
Or If your surfing a river mouth - go about an hour after high tide, so that the current will assist you paddling back out.
Some boards even though they are high in volume don't paddle that well, my 30L Amos shapes paddles great - you could possibly try another board to compare.
Paddling is great exersize, the more you do the better at it & fitter you get so embrace it.
Congrats on your first glide

Thanks mate, so having a high or low aspect wing makes no difference to ease of paddling?
