Hi.
A bit of talk going on about 10ft , longboard style sups. They are a great way to start SUp'n , or make a fantastic addition to your existing quiver.
I have been riding a 10ft SUp (other sizes as well) for over a year. initially i bought it as a cruiser for teaching on, but rode it out in the surf and was pleasently surprised!
This sup had glide and sustained speed through a turn. It was easy to paddle and light to carry. Noseriding, drop-knee turns and hang 5s have been part of my longboard days, now i can enjoy them on my Sup.
I have had this sup out in ridicuously small surf and had a ball for 3hrs! Its a C4 Waterman 10' x 30 ". 159 litres
Check it out, christmas isn't far away.

Agree completely PB,with most of the swell in the mid being under 3ft ,and more often than not 1.5 ft ,it makes total sense. As with other surfcraft we ride what we prefer, but why struggle?.Does improve your wave count on those tiny days, and isn't that one of the reasons a lot of people got into it in the first place? But hey you are preaching to the converted in my case, sup and longboard. The 12ft mickey munoz got a run this arvo......Cheers Waxer
And you make it look great.... stylin' that thing
I totally agree... I have had a longboard or longboard SUP in my quivers since the "shortboard revolution"
I wasn't ever willing to give up the special feel, of a good noseriding session.
Yep, gotta have one. Unfortunately I learned they don't like a solid Mooloolaba shorey! Last time I was on my 10' and I got smashed, but I didn't have anything else to use that day.
We have been toying with a few nose riding models and playing with rail thickness, low rockers and big concaves and have finalised our 2016 Runway shape which I can't get off. Attempting to throw a standup around in 2 foot waves on my backhand has always been challenging. Longboard style sups really open up a new world. I find that using your paddle while on the nose to be more functional than normal nose riding and it lengthens your "hang time". Our "runway model" won't be out till December but I have seen some amazing locally made boards and guys ripping on them at the alley. Stoked to see so much progression!

10 x 28 x 4. Originally I was going to make them without grip but I ended up cutting 2 white pieces up that I had spare and throwing a few spare water transfers on we had laying around. If anyone sees me on the water on this board sing out if you want to swap for a few waves. My 2 1/2 year old son and I use it as a tendem board in 1 foot runners which is a real bonus.
The big boards are so fun. Seems a few of the manufacturers are refining their ten footers. I am currently super lucky and stoked to be enjoying comparing two. The new Naish Nalu 10'x 28 1/2"x4" 130L rocks as does the Laird Surfer by Bob Pearson 10"x29x41/8" 129L. They both have 5 fin set ups, their own nuisances and both a joy to ride. The Naish more performance/ modern mal feeling. Much lower swing weight in the narrower, more lifted nose. The Laird a bit heavier and more of the smooth traditional feeling. I look forward to reviews and playing with fin set ups. Frothing
Here's a bit of GoPro footage with the new Naish Nalu 10'. Shot it at Longy, waist to an odd overhead set. This is a great shape. Lots of rocker so easy to throw around.
GoPro tip: take a lot of memory if you want to shoot in 4k with Hero 4's. My 16 GB was full after 30 mins...:-). http://windsurfnsnow.com.au/site/2016-naish-nalu-10-le-video/
Pictures can say a thousand words.
His and Hers 10ft "quiver". Blue one- C4 10thirty sup. red one- bob mcTavish 10ft redline, longboard.
On a small day we swap.
Hey WINDSURFnSNOW,
great at clip of the new 10' Nalu.... And I really love any music by Seasick Steve - excellentl!
Hey purplebeanie - timely post as i'm looking for a 10' Sup as my 8'6 doesn't cut it some days, but i've just gotta be out, even if its tiny..........
The Waterman is keenly priced - what do you think of the possible longevity and durability of the board?
i'm up in Sydney this weekend (they don't seem to have stockists in Vic), so will try and have a trial on one of the boards if i can - i had a look at the stockists and there's one at Narrabeen
Would appreciate any other feedback you have?
The SUNOVA Style is getting a lot of love down our way.
There is a pretty good review here from Johny Maya

Ridiculous weight at sub 9kg for the 10 x 29". There are still a couple around at $1999 for the XXX Balsa construction.
We have both the 10 x 30" and the 10 x 29" in demo.

Light, and hella sexy!
I'm so stoked with my Speeed, that I am definitely eyeing the 10' Style.
To get Sunova's lightweight quality, in a longboard SUP sounds perfect
trialled the Sunova Style 10'29' and loved it. Really responsive and turns so well, so easy to carry as light as and the handle is brilliant - which is a huge plus for females. Next to trial the Waterman C4 and the Naish Nalu - but at this stage the Sunova is the winner..........not sure what i'm doing with the paddle there :)
Here is another quicky of the Naish Nalu 10' LE. This was my first surf on it and have it really dialled now. IMO, the most performance production LB SUP available. This board is now pretty much the only board I ride for SUP. Highly recommend a demo if you're after performance.
Ride safe,
JB

So you don't ride your 8'8" X32 any more? Have you gone back to prone surfing when the swell gets bigger?
cantSUPenough,
No, I often rode the 8'3" X32. But I must say I am really enjoying the Nalu LE 10' at the moment (pretty much can't get off it), especially in the bigger stuff (but then again, I really enjoy riding all my boards). I have always ridden a mix of SUP and Prone (long and Short board), so it's not really a matter of going back to anything. I am very lucky that my quiver allows me to choose the best weapon for the day (Lucky Naish have the ultimate range), usually somewhere between the following boards that I keep on hand;
- 10' Naish Gerry Lopez Longboard
- 9' Naish Gerry Lopez Longboard
- 10' Naish Nalu LE
- 10'6" Naish Nalu GT
- 8'3" Naish Hokua X32 LE
- 7'10" Naish Hokua X32 GT
- 7'8" Naish Hokua LE
- Naish Raptor V116
- 5'10" Naish Gerry Lopez Quad
- 5'6" Naish Raptor Softtop Quad
All these boards give me giggles in different conditions, some in more conditions than others.
Ride safe,
JB
Wow - what a quiver
I would love to try the Nalu. Down at the Prom you get those beautiful long rides and the shorter boards just aren't a great fit. But watching you in that vid, it looks like the Nalu would fit most of the waves I ride!
Thanks JB
Nice Vid and its on my list of boards to trial - i'm up at Maroochydore next month and i'm hoping to be besties with Ocean Addicts and demo as many boards as possible!
Cheers
Thanks Joffa - hopefully if i get a chance i will try the 9'6 - not so easy to Demo in Vic. i believe.
my first board was a 9'6 and i really enjoyed the size for all round conditions - next board was an 8'6 which is great on its day - need to add to my quiver - but need to make the right choice as i have to answer to the hubbie (same scenario as you guys answering to the good wife)
Thanks JB

Too easy! Your more than welcome to drop past and test as many boards as you like. I have the new Naish LE Nalu 10 footer here ready and waiting for you! As well as a bunch of others.
The 10ft Carbon LE is the pic though! Its an incredible board. As you would expect it surfs long point break style waves so well and will have you sole arching on the nose like a hipster! haha. But where I am equally impressed is how it handles in slightly more hollower punchy beach break waves. Once you get back on the tail and start surfing it more off your back foot its a different animal and you can really crank it around . Very addictive!

Still yet to find a 10' log style sup. To many of the supposed "nose rider " models, have way too much nose lift. They tend to taper the deck thickness out from the bottom and still lift the nose. They all push too much water to put all of the ten wrigglers over. I would like to find one, any suggestions. If the toes aren't hanging over the front it's not a nose ride!!
