Mine my english
My 1st post & review of 2015 Naish Glide GS 12'6 x 30. I wasn't sure which sup to get for me 5'5 80-81kg & family & after reading lots I found this yellow sup which interest me.
This board is very stable and paddle well though side on wind can be a challenge for a beginner
Can't wait for more adventure on this board?
In the future I'll be looking at a race board to do all conditions and which board size would you recomend for my height ang weight above = 12'6 x 26 or 28 & 14' x 26 or 28?
Just like to thank a mate for the help .
Thanks to The Zu Boardsports in Melbourne for the board, paddle & leash!
Thanks to Sunnyking in Melbourne for the board bag! The board fit well on this bag and I'm doing a DIY strap to tight things up the front and sides as per photo.
It's a great board.. I have the 12' version..
You should try downwinding it.. I think you'll be surprised at how good it goes..
IMO in the future at your weight a 14x 28 is a good size for a race board .. especially if you want to do downwinding..
Great first board JEG. Stay on it as long as you can and dont rush in to a new board to soon. Enjoy.
cheers DavidJohn & kikaha.
I reckon 28 wide is a good balance.. oneday?Gonna hang on this board for now and I might be a keeper for the family.
Went on an adventure up the river and back recently and getting the hang of it. Had soo much fun I forgot about the time. 1st pic was turning stop and 2nd pic was almost light out and lucky to make it back in time (next time I'll bring a torch just incase).
maybe HumanCartoon
I wasn't sure about this trip but I had a go and pick the right day. I did a return from Williamstown to Altona and eat lots afterwards.
That dude on the kayak also had a fun day and checkout that double paddle blade.
.
The mighty murry river and its lakes.
This was funny, saw that sign on the tree said Geelong 316km that way, imagine paddling that distance ??
At my fitness HumanCartoon I can probably do that distance in 10 days or 5 days if i had a race board ;) The glide may not be the fastest board but stable when it's rough and or when those boats or ski passes by ;)
Wish we didn't have to leave this place as I'm about 4 steps away from the water
took this board out on 1-2ft surf yesterday at jan juc and was surprised how stable this board out the ocean swell paddling from Torquay point to jac point were the swells are bumpy, petty I can’t surf ;) This board likes it rough and bumpy, now I know why they called it glide. Only thing I want from this board is more speed on which I’m leaning towards the javelin 14’ x 28” or should I go 12'6 x 28" decessions as my next board for me (81kg) to race and might keep the glide.
Keep the 12'6 glide for the time being (but do let me know when you want to move it on ;-) )and add a 14 footer to the quiver - at your weight something in 14' x 26-28" wide would work (with more waterline length you can go a bit narrower, and preserve stability).
Certainly in 14 footers you should look at ;
Naish Javelin (or maybe 29" glide, you're too light for the 30" Glide)
Lahui Kai Race, maybe 27"
DC/NSP, 26" or 28"
Fanatic Falcon
Starboard Allstar
Sunny King (these are under-rated boards)
SIC X-14 or Bullet
and if you have the storage space and budget don't just think 14', have a look at some of the unlimiteds in the 17'+ range
heaps to choose from at your size and weight, take your time and demo a few.
last post of this great board and its for sale if anyone interested to make space in the cage ;)
had a great time SUP on Saturday from Altona to Williamstown yacht club. This run is busy with fishing boats and skis and the glide goes well with the boat & ski ripples & skating in deep water back wash/wave.
