Just taken delivery of a slightly tweaked 9'5 Insane where I left the width at 28 1/8" but I asked Bert to thin the rails out (4 1/8" vs 4 1/2") which means the volume has come in at 109l vs 124l. I also requested 2 leash plugs.
Board comes standard with a 5 fin setup (which makes for a nice change vs my Speeed & Acid) & the lines of the board look like a stretched out Acid with a subtle flyer/hip + a wafer thin tail.
Only 1 surf in (I still need to experiment with fins) but she paddles well / the rails sit nicely under the water line & she's super quick on the wave. I will post a detailed review once I've clocked some surfing hours.
All I can say for the time being is that the stoke factor is high
That thing looks beautiful...like a supermodel skinny version of the Acid. Did Bert paint over the balsa wood? Where exactly are you going to ride that big wave thing?
Even better in the flesh dude & yup...still the same balsa magic.
Although we very rarely get the conditions the Insane is designed for, I've got no excuses now when the cyclone swell turns up
The board looks siiick. Im very envious, i was only looking at it on the Sunova site last night. I could of used it last weekend!! You'll be charging on that thing.
Excellent lookin board, just took delivery of a my 2nd Sunova custom "Insane" model, 9'8x28....awaiting some decent cyclonic surf to get the potential of the board
Sup.... BRO!!!!!
that is a sic color scheme.... brilliant
Just hang it on the wall.... where the TV used to be.
I've been sleeping in the garage not because I was demoted to the dog-box (well almost) but rather because I've got separation anxiety regarding my boards....the Insane in particular
Tino - my NZ Sunova bunker is top secret guarded by a man-eating Ridgeback....well realistically he may lick you to death (haha)
PS - only reason I mentioned point 3 is because my relationship with my better half is temporarily strained whenever I buy a new board
What are the hexagons on the deck up by the nose? Some sort of grip or just a graphic?
So you shaved of 1/2" off the rails and lost 15L in volume. Are you not concerned that in big swells there is a lot of current and water moving around creating cross-chop that 109L might turn out a bit tricky compared to 124L offering extra stability and confidence??
Hexa traction...I find I step off the deck-pad on my Acid from time to time so it does come in handy (not sure if this will be the case on my Insane) + I had some left over so I figured any help to protect this baby from accidental paddle whacks is a good starting point.
My day-to-day boards are the 8'2 Speeed & 8'7 Acid & the Insane definitely feels more stable....the extra length helps. Such a fine line with this style of board where you want as little volume as possible to aid performance but enough volume so that you can handle the conditions...time will tell. I guess the safe bet is to stick with Bert's recommendation....I'm just a sucker for super thin rails
Ohhhh brother..another toy..looks awesome bro..man the space in the Sunova cave be getting smaller and smaller..love it man! That's a thing of beauty
Chur
For someone who isn't obsessed with the sport, my other Sunova boards blend in nicely together so there's wiggle room for change however, the Insane is a real point of difference....fortunately she really likes the colour so all good
What is hexa traction? Is it a stick on grip?
Did you get to pick the paint job or leave it to Team Burger?
Check out www.rspro.org/collections/wax-is-for-candles/products/hexatraction-board-grip...yes, stick on grip. It's not cheap but free international shipping on orders over €111 / it's easy to apply & more user friendly than wax. Their rail saver & even paddle edge saver are also great products. You can also order RSPro products from Oz....just work out if it's cheaper given the FX rate. FYI - I installed hexa on a prone longboard & I personally think wax has the edge, but it works a treat on SUPs.
I chose the paint job....it does however come at a cost + it add's a bit of weight to the board....maybe not such a bad thing on a longboard or gun?
Never thought about paint adding weight...
Did you consider using hexagrip over the entire board and not hiding the paintwork? It is a work of art!
