Last week I orderd a gog mob 7'11 Cool (140l). They delivered a mob 7'11 Rad (125l), now I'm in doubt.

I'm 56 183cm and 79kg. I'm in good shape except for my back. I had lot back surgery and I am stiff. I'm living in the Netherlands where the conditions are mostly not to good. Very often very choppy, with a lot of backwash. My goto board is a blue planet Patato Chip 130l. ,very stable but not good in bigger waves. My Sunova Creek 8'10 (125.3 l) is good for clean days in winter and most of the days in summer. Except for the very rough days.

I orderd the mob 140. For the choppy and rough days and also for the winter time with heavy wetsuit, but if the mob rad (125l) would be stable enough for me I would prefer that one.

Is there someone who has experience on the mob 7'11 Rad and on the creek 8'10?
Ills there someone who ride the mob rad as well as the mob cool?

I'm Sorry, but English is not my first language, I hope it is readable.

Simple...if they sent the wrong board get it returned..don't accept something 20 litres lower!

Slab is on it !Gong seem to be good guys, they should own that mix up ,think of your back and choppy local conditions ,your intuition on a higher volume board will be better for your long term recovery ,I have made similar mistakes, my mantra now is ,I think from Gerry Lopez, surf today like you want to surf Tomorrow, look after yourself .

Thank you guys,

You are both probably right. Gong is willing to help, no problem there. It's just that, when I ordered my board the small version was not on stock. So I feel like getting a extra option here. The outline of the board looks super stable, so I started to doubt. To be honest, if there's a possibility to doubt, I will.

First, Gong will happily find a solution with no issue, don't worry.

I do not know people that have used both the Rad and the Cool, what can I say is:

- The Rad and Cool plan shape is inherently stable: wide everywhere
- In 7'11", the Rad is 2cm narrower, but still above 31", which is still comfy
- The reduced volume of the Rad will be noticeable in the rails: with less volume they will sink more easily. This means less primary stability, but also better handling in bigger waves.

When you get used to it, thinner rails can help stability in chop, as the board will be less moved around by the chop, will feel more "anchored in" the water than floating as a cork above it. But it is a personal feeling, and your stiff back may make the Rad too much too handle, I don't known.

My advice would be for you to expose the problem to Gong, and see if you can try your Rad yourself in rough conditions to decide, and have Gong exchange your - then barely used, rail savers would be a good idea - Rad for a Cool if the test was not successful.

Thank you Colas,

I followed you advise, but trying is not an option. They won't take the board back after being used. Which is understandable...

I hope someone will respond who surfed the mob alswel as the sunova creek. Otherwise the board will be exchanged.

Well, on the paper the Gong Rad seem noticeably stabler than your creek, as it is wider everywhere, and especially at the nose and tail:

Widths nose / main / tail in cm:
- Creek 47.6 x 76.8 x 45.4
- Mob Rad 57.5 x 79.0 x 51.5
- difference: 9.9 x 2.2 x 6.1

I cannot find the dims of the Blue Planet Potato Chip 130L (only the 123L).
I suggest you try to measure it, the Mob Rad widths may not be very different, and 125 liters is quite close to 130 liters.

But as we say in French: "Those who advise are not those who must pay" :-)...

I bought from Gong but when I emailed to ask a question about a new order I got no response despite their 24 hour promise. So I tried again a week later ( you have to jump through a lot of hoops to email Gong). Again no response.
I sold my Gong Foil set up and moved on. Thats Gong and Flysurfer, who were even worse on service, off my buy list forever. Flysurfer at least apologised for misinforming me, just took my money first and took months to deliver an instock item.
A human problem which every business has.

Yes, they try to make you use their chat system on the web site, as email can be unreliable (often by the various spam filters).

Note that this is a general problem nowadays, and why a lot of companies provides you with some kind of system on their website to contact them rather than via mere email. Or ask you to contact support via Twitter or Facebook or Discord...

I manage my own email server, and the amount of rules emails must obey nowadays is baffling. And some email provider have their own specific rules (e.e GMail). For instance, the SPF and DMARC rules as implemented by GMail have made something as basic as forwarding email impossible. community.cloudflare.com/t/spf-failures-leading-to-gmail-rate-limiting-on-forwarded-emails/624828
"Inconsistent delivery is unfortunately a known side effect of email forwarding in the age of DMARC."
And as sending an email means having it go through lots of intermediate server, each with its own rules...
