Ooops. Maybe too many clips sorry. But had to show some sequential clips of my mate on his 7ft 5" AW Van catching the wave of the day when the surf was pumping last week. And what a week it was! Some at double overhead. Best surf in a long time. My mate loved his recently purchased AW Van. I checked it out & noticed it a bit rough on the bottom but it didn't seem to affect it though. He took the steep drop, slight turn & shot out like a cannon ball! lol!!

I was on my JP 8ft 2" as I thought I would have needed it for the best stability against the choppy waters the entrance current creates on a low tide. but hey it wasn't choppy. Haven't been on my JP for a long time.

After coming off my Sunova Soul 8ft 3" which is 29" wide compared to the JP 32" Wide I definitely did notice its great stability. It certainly made my stand up stability super comfortable waiting for the sets.

But I had to move around on the deck, mainly the tail end to get the most out of my turns which is typical of a wide board with wide tail. Also to the back pad on the drop down the wave face due to its shallow rocker. Which I should do anyway. My bad habit is standing central on a board which gives me great glide & speed but unfortunately a nose dive on a drop! Lol!

Anyway I did do most things right this time on my JP & absolutely loved the way it performed. In my opinion compared to my Sunova Soul it didn't carve as good, it didn't have the control. I had to force it a bit to do what I wanted. Again I think it's to do with its width. But when my back foot was on the tail pad it came loose as. And it did feel a little corky over the chop. Probably due to its width & I have lost weight down to 77 kgs. Being heavier I am sure it would have felt softer.

It was a bit slower when wanting to get away from the breaking foam & down the line speed. But the JP had no problem with paddle speed to catch waves what so ever. I don't know why?

So was I happy surfing my JP? you bet I was. It's a keeper in my quiver.

Nice one sea juice ...I tend to agree with you ,I like the 32 "wide boards better .makes life a little bit easier .
they don't bog down in messy surf as much either ,I love my x32 ...ripping good wave .
