We've had a good run of waves lately especially on the East Coast so I've had been able to ride most of my Sup & surfboard quiver....
I've been a shortboard surfer for nearly 40 years & riding sup's since the beginning...I can't believe how boards have changed & that an 8 footer can be more stable than an older 10 or 10'6 board from only a few years ago...
I use my 8'7 Jimmy Lewis Stun Gun as my "step-up" board because it feels like I'm riding my "step-up" surfboard...Even when you hold it up & look at it from the tail it looks like a surfboard with it's beautifully refined rounded pin tail...
So many sup's are too boxy in the tail or rail or they are too domed in the deck to get a lower profile rail...
The Stun Gun has a nice flat deck but really refined rails & yet it keeps it's stability....I mainly ride it on our local reef breaks or bigger beach break days (even though it still surfs well in 3' beachies)...The 8'7 is29.5"x3.75" (110L)
As Jimmy says-
The Stun Gun is the most versatile wave board for decent to excellent waves. Smooth semi gun outline with it's soft round pin tail makes it hold through quick carving turns. It has a flat bottom all the way from the nose to just in front of the fin area where the "V" starts and flows off of the tail. With that flat bottom there is no governor on the speed and the "V" bottom in the tail allows the rider to lay the board on rail effortlessly to initiate a hard bottom or top turn.
I find the rounded pin-tail holds in no matter how hard you go off the bottom & gives you so much confidence in big surf....
I know I've posted Kealii Mamala Paddling big clean Tahiti on a stock board from 2 years agobut the Stun Gun is timeless & still surfs better than a lot of sup's I've tried to date (I demo as many boards as I can at demo days so I can compare them)
I'm off to G-Land next week & I think I'll be taking my Stun Gun as well
