Hello,
I am new to the forum and had a question about my new Bark/Laird 14 in Tuflite construction. I just received the board last week and when I unwrapped it from the box, I noticed a horizontal indentation on the underside of the board about 6-8 inches below the laird decal. Just wanted to make sure this was just cosmetic and not a big deal. My guess is that it happened during the manufacturing process. Below are a few pics of the indentation. Please et me know what any of you thing. Thank you, Brandon
Hi, I had the same issue with my glide GX 2014, no biggie, imo. You could worry about if you feel a delamination beetween the top and the internal structure of the board during use. Have fun ;D
What did the shop/Surftech say once you told them and showed them your pictures?
The problem with a full gloss finish like that is that it shows up all the imperfections that you would not see on a brushed carbon or mat finish board.
It's hard to say if that happened at the factory or during transport.. I'm sure it will be fine.. Shame though it's not perfect..
That would really p*ss me off and I would look at every time I went for a paddle.
Where do you draw the line?
What constitutes a slight imperfection as opposed to a defect?
In this case I believe that its a damaged board even though it would most probably not affect performance!
Did you pay for a damaged board?
You paid for the boards performance as well as the aesthetic component, shiny colourful straight board without any prior dints or dings.
You have the opportunity to put scratches, dints or dings in the board after purchase, you don't want them in prior to purchase.
I would at least want the opportunity to swap it for a new board.
Let the retailer deal with the supplier and they may have to sell it for a reduced price, giving you first dibs as to whether you would like to purchase it as a damaged or board.
I would ask the retailer if there was something wrong with the money that you paid him for the board, because there is definitely something wrong with the board that you received.
I have a tuff lite Bark Dominator made by surf tech. It has a gloss finish as well and it will show any ding. I have had mine for three years and it is my favourite board and I have used it lots and it has lots of dings. I also have a Fanatic carbon 14 and it it only a few months old and already has dings etc. So what I am really trying to say is that your boards won't be perfect as soon as your start using them anyway. And I have never brought a perfect board , all have small imperfections but I'm sure it will be a great board to paddle on and it will put a big smile on your face.
Also I dig the blue colour, its a nice looking board :-)
Thanks you for all your responses!! I really appreciate it. Yea I figured it was fine but was just being paranoid. I emailed Surftech and they said it didn't look like any structural damage to them and said not to worry about it. Thanks again for everyone's help! Cheers
I sort of agree with BigLump, i purchase a new JP and it would seem somewhere from blank to glass it had been lent onto something and had made small indentations, negotiated a discount off the board, and the retailer got it back form the supplier, so was happy. Never effected performance and was happy with the position, it got more damage when I used it
ShireSup, your board came with marks similar to what you see above? Sorry to hear that however I am glad I'm not the only one who has a new board that came like this.. Makes it seam a bit more common. Tama87 also said his glide came like this.. just hope I don't have the delamination issues mentioned above.. Oh well I'll be taking it out this weekend for the first time and hopefully it won't blow up on me haha
