Got a sneak peak at the brochure for the Naish 2012 range at the weekend (sorry no photos). The new 12'6 race board (glide javelin) is supposed to be amazing. Takes some cues from the Fanatic 12'6 but is supposed to be more stable in the narrower width making an ideal flat water racer and downwinder. The first one is due to arrive in the country in the next week, so there should be some photos creeping out.

The Hokua range has a change with the 9'6 being replaced with a 9'5. There is also a new range which looks as though it might be inflatable (sorry, I only had the brochure in my hands for about 30 second and my memory isn't great so if anyone else has some more info it would be great).

If I buy some new deck grip and a black permanent marker pen, I can transform my 2011 Hokua into a 2012! Nice.

I recently bought a 9'6" hokua and absolutely love it. It is the lightest board I have ever tried and it surfs unbelievable. The new handles are also a great addition.
It improved my surfing instantly as it is so light and loose and much more responsive. It is also just long enough to still get up on the nose for a bit of a nose ride.
I find it a little unstable between waves but that is just getting used to a smaller board.

I saw a new 2012 board today and it had channels running through the base of the board. Would be great for tracking I imagine. Would like to see the whole range.

Sorry, I took these in the shop and didn't get the photo of the Nalu and Mana. Didn't seem to be much change to the lineup that I noticed.

The 9'5 is supposed to be a vast improvement on the old 9'6 and has more volume making it a good wave board with bigger volume. Think it's going to be a winner

I think there now maybe a contract out on your head from Robbie Naish, Mbuzz!! I'd seen the brochure but was told by the dealer that they were instructed in no uncertain terms, to hold off on releasing any images. That was last Tuesday. I hope you don't get a visit from a couple of big Hawaiian "Brahs". Cheerio

The new Naish Website goes online around the 16th July. I have the new kite brochure too and can't show any images which is hurting as the new gear looks sick throughout all 3 sports.....

If you are interested check out the latest US US Surfer Mag, there is a two page spread ad for the new range of Naish SUP's. My copy is due to arrive soon but the US SUP forums have mentioned the ad.

New site should go up tomorrow. Will be good to see some photos of the new boards. The pics in the ad don't really show much detail in terms of profile.

The 12'6" glide should be in Australia now. Anyone tested it? Surely DJ must have taken it for a spin?

Paddled the Glide 12'6" x 28" on Maui recently and was impressed. Didn't paddle it on the flat or BOP style conditions just on the Maliko run but it still felt pretty at home there. Would have been nice to test it against the SIC 12'6" in those conditions as that board is a pretty good benchmark for any downwind 12'6" but you don't see too many of those on Maui.

On the water the Naish cut nice and cleanly then lifted quickly when runs came with a nice glide. Even with it's aggressive, low looking nose I didn't find myself running to the back anywhere near as often as I thought I would as it was nice and controllable from the middle.

Looking forward to cross checking it soon back home against the SIC's and Fanatic 12'6"'s when we can to see where it really sits. So far so good though.

Sam.

Shall I just get my tax rebate transferred straight into your account Sam to save time ; )

Look forward to trying some of the boards out in a few weeks time when the money comes through.

Sam,
Did you get a ride on the other 2012 naish race boards? Hear the 14 footer has changed? What about the 14 jav, is it different shape? Sunken the deck a little?
Regards,
Scott

Hi Scotty,

Rode most of the new race range a couple of weeks ago and there is some good new stuff coming.
Quick overview:
14' Jav is unchange in it's shape.
17' Jav is unchanged in shape from the 17' Glide. The biggest difference is the weight is supposed to be a kg or 2 better than previously due to a carbon base instead of timber.
14' Glide is all new for 2012 and I loved it. A gentler, more progressive nose rocker in the front half and softer more forgiving rails will make the board much faster than the older model in less than perfect downwind conditions. Just links and flows better and should be much more fun in Sydney or non Maui style conditions.
At Maliko the changes didn't make the new board any less fun than the old 14 when the wind and swell is on. It still surfs easily when you're up the back of the board and feels more like a 12'6" than a 14.
The less abrupt rocker seemed to fit in better with the back of swells when it did connect and as a result slowed less and flowed through more. End result it was quicker than the old board on any water.
Still though, I'm looking forward to hearing DJ's view when he paddles it as he's spent much more time on the old 14 than almost anyone.

Sam.

When do you think you'll be getting some of these new boards in?

I'm thinking of joining SPSC this year, so would like to get a 12'6 I can use for racing, general fitness and some DW. The season starts second week in Aug so would be nice to have something by then. Alternatively, perhaps I can demo some boards at the first event (given the level of surfing, I expect to be out of the surfing comp in the first round so would be nice to have something else to do!).
