After watching Tardy and CSE go on the custom made journey I decided to get a Lord Bonza made and I got the first drawing today. The shape will be a long board rounded nose and 9'5 x 32 wide, this should be fun!
Dave! Mate, it's the Big Left Bonzer! Diggin' the Japanese vibes. That things gonna be fast and sick. Awooooooo!!!!

Yes it truely custom as the Letter are my name with an added extra at the end so it's a real one off unless someone wants my surname. Yes I was wanting good stability for Big Left and other reef breaks in the area as well as being good for Noosa waves. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and rented a long board shaped SUP and really liked the feel of the board.
Noosa speacial ! A tad lighter ,and heaps more manouverable than the nsp hire beast,I shouldn't be to critical you had a ball on the nsp a while back. When is the Smik due ?Im waiting for a custom 10 x30 style lord ,I have had enough of shorter sups!.. As lm addicted to glide !,

Heaps lighter than the board I hired and its smaller than my 10ft mana but I love the long board nose and the way it worked on the wave. I am hoping to get it some time in October at this stage and am looking forward to getting it wet and taking it back to Noosa next year.
too wide
you will love it ,first custom ,go Dave ,the mana will be hanging in the shed when this arrives ,you will be taking cut backs to another level

Still love my Mana but your righty it will gather dust for a bit, may sell it but not sure yet. I like being comfortable in choppy water so the width is where I like it, I tried the shape and width in Noosa as mentioned above but wanted a good long board so here we are?
Mate, the longboard Bonza - custom 9'9" 31.5" is brilliant - you will love your custom
What size centre fin are you running, have you used it as a single fin set up?
Yes, have used as single, gives traditional longboard turn ( for me ) - the five fins give me a bit more "squirt" out of turns and more speed along the face if you need it. I am not really into stalling and run up the nose type surfer, more speed and flow into cutties and if I am lucky, maybe a little beachie barrel. I am in Darwin at present, will measure the centre fin for you when I get home. I just used standard smik fin that came with board. Also width of board for me is good - rail to rail is fine, do not want " flick flack " type of surf - that is more shorter lighter board stuff.
Hey Dave if your thinking bigger waves a Quad set is a lot more user friendly than the single ,as stehar mentioned more squirt
and power ,you will also ride across the face a lot better with side rides .
I use this on my 9,11 Insane ,it still stays pretty loose too .when do we see the first Photos ?
Hey Tardy,
it will be interesting to use different set ups with the fins, not sure when I see drawings or photos yet, hopefully at some stage so I can see how it progresses.
Bonza's are best for big walling points... that was their design intention initially. Their speed and drive is unmatched in those conditions IMO. Bottom turns have a 'hold on... this thing just does not slow down' feeling.
The bottom concave's etc really don't gel without the side fins in... A big single fin might overcome it, but it wasn't designed for that in the first place...
Thruster also can be used, but will be sub-optimal also. IMO keep it as a Bonzer and enjoy... Or buy a hipster longboard...

Thanks for the info I will keep it as it comes then.
Hey Dave - how's the wait going mate?
I reckon you'll be like a kid on Christmas morning when the new beast arrives! Nothing like waiting for a new stick to test the old patience out! Keep us posted man!

Patience is something I am still trying to learn, yep kid at Chrissy is me when it comes to big boy toys.
Scotty was good enough to send me a progress pic of the shape pre shaping, I find it interesting to see the progression.
Update alert, still a ways off and a lot of work to do but at least I can see the shape and have an eta of some time in October. Not quite starting to feel like Christmas but its certainly getting closer?
Got a nice update from Scotty today, just need the deck pad and its good to go? I recon my name looks good in Japanese.
starting to look Smik Dave it will be a good step down from the 10 mana
Thanks mate, that's the plan, still love the Mana and will keep it but the thinned out nose and tail will be good as well as being a quad.
Looks great Dave, I really like the look of the 9'5 Bonza with the pulled in nose. So I look forward to seeing how this one works for you.
I have a very punchy beach break locally, that has a lot of push as the wave stands up out of deep water and the Bonza could be a great board for it.
Hope it's in your hands soon.
Steve.

Presuming the Bonza would be good in your situation, mine should be good for the reef breaks I gravitate too, long sweeping turns not snappy manoeuvring.
Oh SNAP Dave!... nearly identical to my 9'2 Mini Stylelord... Currently under guard at the Nationals at Phillip Island and then coming back up to me with a mate......
