ok.... just small, windy surf since my 8'10 Speeed came
but I do have a short vid to add to the info here

So happy with how easily it moves in small waves, I can't wait for some real surf!

Plus a sneak peek at my new SUP Yoga move. Yowza!

Anyone point me in the right direction to source a cover for an 8'10" Speeed?

I'm only after a stretch sock, but finding one with the blunt nose is difficult.

Recently received my 8'10" Speeed. Hasn't been in the water yet but first impressions have me amped.

Any Mal sock - 9' to 10' will do the job! Get on ebay or check out your local surf shop.

Wow - that is some move! It must be stable if you can ride it on one foot! It sure does scoot across the wave!

After reading STC's review I had to go out and try my new 8'10" Speeed. The conditions weren't great (15 knots on-shore), and it was getting dark, but there were some OK waves around. Unfortunately my GoPro mouth mount broke after a few waves* (fortunately after the dolphins came to visit) so the footage I have is not great. Can post it if anyone wants to see it.

A few thoughts (after my first trip):

1. Pretty stable (not as stable as my 8'8" X32 but more so than the 7'10" Minion). Stability was not a problem on this trip.

2. Very happy on the wave. But I am yet to really dial it in of course. It seems to want to turn faster than my X32 when my foot was on the tail.

3. A little harder to get back out through the waves than both the 8'8" and Minion. The Minion just plows straight through the whitewash. The wide nose on the Speeed seemed to make it want to lift up more. I will have to adjust my technique.

4. It seemed really smooth on the wave. Hard to explain. It was like it had shock absorbers. It just glides across the wave. Can't wait to see what it is like on a bigger, faster wave.

5. It did also seem faster than the X32 - thus the name. Small pumps really got it going.

(I am 90 kg and been supping for 18 months.)

* It was my fault that it broke. I broke it once before trying to attach it to my paddle handle and then glued it back together. I guess that didn't work...

Yes - I have supitis bad!

I just took the Speeed for another run. Small waves, but clean, so stability was not an issue. A couple more observations:

1. It has a domed deck, thus the rails are narrower, whereas the 8'8" X32 and the Minion have flatter decks (but fatter rails). I slightly prefer the flatter deck - but I want narrow rails too! Compromise, compromise...
2. Once again I noticed that it was harder to get back out through breaking waves. The Minion drives through the whitewash, but you have to handle the reduced end-to-end stability.
3. In the smaller waves I found it harder to get back far enough to turn it properly (on the Speeed). If you just went straight down the line it was fun and fast. But to turn it you have to throw your weight way back which was not always desirable on a small wave.

But all these comments are coming from someone who has not spent a lot of time on either board, and is not the most highly skilled surfer...

One other little issue; I have not weighed them, but I am sure the Minion (vacuum bagged) is heavier than the Speeed. I have to carry the board over 0.5 km to my favorite break, so that is a bit of an issue for me.

So, I think the Minion is a little less stable, but - right now - I think I would prefer it on a smaller wave if I want to make a few turns - the back of the board is not as far away. I hope to give the Minion a run on the weekend.

(Speeed: 8'10 x 29" Minion: 7'10" x 29")

Had my 1st surf on 8.5 Speeed today, 2 ft with a side chop early, glassed of later. I've been riding a 8'x30" S4 Simsup, found it took a bit of getting used to having feet closer together on the Speeed, but found it quite stable once it glassed off.

Once on on a wave you can see why it's called the Speeed, flies done the line, made a conscious effort to have foot right back, wow it turns on a dime, had an absolute ball on it today & looking forward to 2nd go tomorrow.

Finally, after the great reviews everyone gave us who has actually tried their boards or demoed it, we decided not to touch the actual shape. It's just too amazing...
So there will NOT be an XL version now, but much more sizes to really chose and dial in your experience.

Please see the updated Speeed sheet with all currently available models.

I've been riding the 8'10" Speeed now for about 5 weeks. I lost interest a couple of years ago with the surfing side of SUP due to boards being absolute pigs to turn - fat rails with absolutely no thought from the designer in relation to trying to bury the bloody thing in the wall of a wave as they were probably more concerned about the overall volume of the board and if it floated well when waiting for a wave.

So I read the reviews on the Speeed and picked a size I felt comfortable with, even though I could have gone smaller. I've come off boards in the 9'5" to 10' range with say 31-32" widths and volumes of 150lt+ to this 8'10" Speeed. I was a little bit apprehensive to pull the trigger but let the reviews speak for themself.

First session was at a sucky beachbreak on my backhand. I'd never had the thing in the water to test prior to this surf and got bucked off a couple of times paddling out through a rip. As the reviews state, it takes a bit of shuffling to find the sweet spot and this was no different - too far forward, not good! Too far back, not good! The slightly staggered approach works best. Funny how you always remember your first wave on a new board. This was no different. A wave approached and I was firstly surprised how easily it picked up the swell, but the wave jacked quickly and I found myself positioning my feet for a steep drop and long fast sucky wall. The bottom turn was so smooth as the rail engaged into the face. The next 10 seconds were a blur but I clearly remember after the ride just the elation of how well the board went on my first wave, on a new board with so much less volume than i'd been used to. After the session I reflected on not only how well the board performed but also how quickly I was able to adjust to such a smaller board in all aspects than i'd been used to previously.

The next couple of sessions I had on the Speeed were also on my backhand. Just using the time getting used to how little shifts in balance make the board react.

Then, in my last session a few days ago I was able to use the Speeed on my forehand for the very first time. Well, it just blew me away. Being able to trim the board down the line while engaging the rail into the wave face was like nothing i'd experinced previously on a wave SUP. I like my surfboards a bit weighty, but for a SUP I actually prefer them light. This is the lightest wave SUP i've ridden and the response from the board is just amazing. Rail carves, effortless transition from rail-to-rail and the incredible lightness under-foot are just some of the benefits I encountered that I struggled to get out of my previous SUP's.

All i'll say is Bert knows his stuff. He comes from a surfing background obviously but he's using all these principles from years of shaping surfboards and applying them to his SUP's and the outcome is incedible in my opinion. The construction is second to none and like nothing on the market. But what I like is the fact that I can turn around to Bert now and ask for a custom shape. Now ask yourself - do you get that from the big 3 or 4?

In summary, the Speeed has put a smile back on my face again.

Wondering if someone could confirm that the speed has a mast track for a windsurfing rig, for windsupping.

Has anyone used the board for this? Any inside scoop on how the mast track, if any, holds up to stress compared to a typical windsurf board mast track?

It looks like there is a mast track, from the pictures, although a short one, for a single bolt mast base and UJ.

I am hoping to receive my new Speeed in the next few days, and the windsupping option is one of the reasons that I chose the board. Most of the other brands (Fanatic, JP, Starboard) that offer a windsup option just use a threaded insert, so the short track would seem to be a step up from that in terms of durability. I read somewhere that Sunova chose the short track because it would resist twisting forces better than the single threaded inserts. Tino from Sunova sent me a great note on how well the FCS fin attachments were anchored; triple reinforcement with high density PVC, bamboo plates, and extra glass. I know he checks in here periodically so hopefully he will chime in with what they used for the mast track. Some of my favorite days are light wind wavesailing in head to double overhead+ surf, so eventually I will be giving that short mast track a good test.

Hi Sup I originally ordered a 9'2 Speeed which was mistakenly put in a catalogue but unfortunately no such board exists. I've ordered the 9'5 which should arrive in August via Surf FX. Can't wait seems to be the story of my life but guess what?

Great photo STC! And he is even on my favorite sail; a 2015 Simmer Black Tip. Can you say where you found the photo. I would love to see or read any more info related to the photo.
Had a nice glassy surf session this morning on the AllWave, but the whole time I was visualizing my new Speeed which is on its way here. Trying to work on a narrower stance in order to minimize the adjustment once I am on it.

Thanks to this thread and a push from Tino, I was lucky enough to pickup an 8'5" stateside. I picked up my first SUP back when my Starboard 9'8" Extremist was extreme. At 155l and me at 160lb, it turned like a supertanker. My second board was a Naish 9'0" Mana. At 140l, it surfed like a Panga. I was hooked on SUPing, but after a handful of surf tries, I stuck to flatwater and moved on to race boards.

Appropriate since I've only been out a handful of times on the Speeed and that includes flatwater and a no paddle surf. I am a surfer first and generally ride performance longboards. I have no illusion of trying to ride a SUP like my shortboards, but figured one day, I'd get a surf SUP that worked. When I saw the Speeed, my instincts said this board will work.

First time on a wave was a revelation. Dropping in I had a moment of doubt, but stepping back and I was carving with ease. Realize that carve was not an experience I've had before on an SUP, so although I was hoping, I still wasn't expecting it. The tail is what attracted me in the first place and the bump channeled diamond is one key that makes the Speeed special. Transitions are smooth, but I luv that bite you get from the cut channels. I got an oddball set of fins (I'm guessing) 94 fronts and an 83 center. They work fine, but I'll bet smaller sides and matching middle will speed turns up a bit. I'm a front foot surfer and got caught a couple of times trying to drive turns from too far up. A quick step back and I was snapping a turn. The whole experience reminded me of my first Tri-fin, an Al Merrick Tri-plane hull. It was a new era board with a channeled hull bite and this is definitely a new era for me. I mentioned smooth, but the whole Speeed / Sunova construction is Smoooth in the water. Disclaimer: I've only been out in 2-3' wind swells.

Although Bert mentions the Speeed has Tomo / Vanguard ques, I'll come right out and say there is nothing Tomo / Vanguard like about this board. The flipped blunt nose really adds to paddling stability, but the expected pushing of water never occurs. The paddle speed is very good and there is very little yaw like curved "shortboard" shapes. I was amazed how fast this board paddled when I got down and prone'd it. I see it as blunted flipped nose performance longboard with a Speeed tail. I keep pressing the phrase 'performance longboard' but besides trimming and barrel hunting, there is no traditional longboard nose work to be done on the Speeed. I originally thought the sweet spot for paddling was forward on this board, but it turns out it is dead center of the board length, which is in front of the handle and the balance center.

I can only add that everything Bert and Tino have presented regarding the Speeed and Sunova is true. Looking forward to my next Sunova.

P.S. I'm imagining an 8 Ball with a Speeed Tail

Awesome baddog.... it's an easy board to love!
It will drive a down the line, frontside turn, using the forward rail to project speed, on a juicy wave.
I imagine the Speeed tail on everything.... so sweeeet!

obijon.... it is from the "Friends of Sunova" Face Book page... more pics there.
Ask Martin about windSUPing the Speeed. He loves it.

As a lover of SPEED - no, NOT methamphetamines - I am keen to give this and the 9'6" Style a demo. both seem to have nice performance orientated dimensions that are missing in a lot of companies ranges.

Just to add my .02c - I have my 8'10" speeed with me in the Maldives - absolutely loving it! Yesterday out of 15 waves, 8 were over 25 km/h (15.5 mph) with 4 over 28 km/h (fastest 30 km/h or 19 mph). For me, with my skill level - that's flying! And it turns well too. (Measured with my Ripcurl GPS watch.)

hey baddog, those fins are stock so correct.bert has always gone big sides ,smaller centre(like simon anderson - he said the truster is a twin with a stabiliser),drive & hook come from your outside fins..reduce the centre fin size to loosen it up in softer waves,d
