Good to hear the speed is doin its thing again.Just got back from the Telos and the 8.10 was all over it but would have loved the 8.5 i tell ya.Im about to put me c drives in and give em a blast for good health. This speed is the gift that just keeps giving, enjoy sunovians.

Hi Everyone,
I've recently got myself a sunova speed 8'5" and love it. Works great in all the conditions i've had it out in here on the east coast of england.
What i'm wanting to know is about these "C DRIVE" fins some of you are running in your SPEEEDs. Do they make much difference to the board i.e. feel & handling. also what size "C DRIVE" fins would i need to buy. At the moment i'm just running the standard sunova fins and the board seems great but if i can change the fins and have a different feel to the board it would be like having 2 in one.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

great forum by the way, loads of useful info

@supwaxer.

I run the medium size C drive surfboard fins, so they are smaller in size then the Original Sunova fins.
They give me some extra drive and not making the board to stiff while surfing .
The biggest difference for me was surfing backside waves, for some strange reason they are just fantastic for me that way
Maybe its me but I love these and all I can say you should try.

Or drive up to the Netherlands and try mine

Although I can't compare to the Sunova fins as I changed to CDrive before getting new board wet..I do like the feel of acceleration out of turns that the c drive gives the Speeed..I'm sure it's more than ok with the stock fins but like you the advice I got was these fins notch it up s level.. unfortunately the waves are not playing their part..still no damm swell or decent waves yet

quick session in lumpy stormy sharky last day of winter here in Perth.
7'11, stock fins.
effing hard getting up from seated when the reef is bubbling, seas lumping and the board is submerged, but thankfully i keep thinking of Eric from Paddlewoo's comments "paddle out of the hole" via sinking tail and keeping nose at highest. loving the challenge. this is the hardest part about a small board i recon, getting up on it quick, into surf stance, getting ur paddle in hands correctly in time to stroke while tail sunk, nose uppish and get it moving into the hook turn in 2-5 strokes and onto the wave. once on its a surfboard really.

anyhow, once on the wave - fast, so fast. recon speed is double that of my previous Jimmy lewis cork. speaking of cork, recon Bert is right, my older boards sat on top of the water and always felt corky, bobbing and unstable. these boards rails sit under the water and recon are more stable.
so yeh typical reef left this morning with fast rising swell, waves were running fast and closing out at end.
Made a few late drops, interesting with the wider nose but didnt nose dive it, rails engaged very well and boom off she burns. made sections i would not have on standard old board. wikid.

Fins - defo not a fan of fcs, not sure why Bert likes them. to me they have too much movement laterally, the 2 tabs arent enough and the fins wobble. A future is much stiffer at the base, what i recon a fin should be like then allow the tip to flex. ANYHOW, i recon i feel this wiggle when on a wave with late drop and the board generates this insanely fast speed. i am using stock fins, seem like a large size. maybe an after market fin will feel different.
need to get hold of a second set for north trips, not sure what to buy. not sure of these c-drives, look a bit weird to me. will get something standard shape like shapers s6-s8 (really love the shapers in my surfboards, kiteboards and old sups, but they are all futures), or some AM2 or maybe even some 3dfins.

Caution I ran with the VP combos in my Minion and I liked them alot..could not put them onto the Speeed because they are futures ...hence the C Drives..I have L sides and medium centre set up.. talking to a few guys before I got the speeed and the guys in the shops in Australia they are a popular choice

You should try the FCSII system. The hold of the fin is insane.

Hi SupWaxerUK, I have the 8'10 and 8'5 Speeed with c-drives in, and it has really lifted the performance of these 2 boards. I am running large sides and medium rear and it works a treat. I am 88kg and 6'1, the fins give great power, speed and a loose feel.I have the same set up as Supmaori.

Enjoy.

you must have got some waves the last couple of days sup maori.....lookiing forward to seeing some video (sorry about the crotch shot comments)
was supposed to be tiny waves at town beach today but went there as closer to work.....some big 4 foot sets coming through every 10 minutes or so.
Was feeling a bit lonely as the only person out.......very happy to have an impact vest on for the pop up factor though

the swell seemed to be coming more from a southerly or easterly direction today......it was getting into cliffs at kaiti beach but wind was wrong direction for there. maybe wrong direction for your parts

Hi All
Finally found someone who can bring a Speeed to me in South Africa. Just need to confirm the size. From reading posts from Caution, Supmaori, Cantsupenough and Brenno, Im thinking the 8.2 would be about right for me. Currently on a 7.2 Minion and it is GREAT. I find it a bit unstable in cross wind / current conditions but great to surf. I would like the Speed to be slightly more stable than the Minion. Im 70 kg and 5 ft 10, been supping for a few years now and from what Ive read on this thread, the Speed would add a lot to my small quiver (Small in number of boards that is) I also use a 7.11 Corban Lithium but prefer the Minion style board.
Any comments at this late stage much appreciated.

Hi T-man
The 8'2 Speeed will be more than enough float, with 11 liters more than your Minion.
The width is only 1/8" more, and the tail is narrower than the Minion, but the extra float, combined with 1 foot of added length, should be fine in chop.

The real bonus in ease, comes when paddling for a wave:
the kicked nose of the Speeed is super stable under pressure, like when digging hard for a wave.
The nose keeps rising up, the harder you paddle..... and the Speeed paddles very well.

The Special sauce in the Speeed tail will be a great addition to your quiver and the narrow overall width, will just plain rip!

Hey tannaman - x 2 what Creek mentions. I'm an 80-85kg intermediate who recently bought a mint 8'2 Speeed from a fellow breezer (thanks once again mate) which now sits alongside my 8'5 Speeed....this has been my go-to board for the past couple of years. It certainly feels a bit more twitchy vs my 8'5 but I'm amazed at how well it paddles & I'm super chuffed with it. At your stats, you've got a nice buffer vs your 7'2 Minion. PM me if you want more details.
