Here's a few pics of the new 2013 Starboard race board line-up. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to paddle one (yet), but they are FAST!!!
This is just a preview now and i'll upload some more pics when i'm awake again tomorrow.

Have to wonder if the Carbon All Star gave Annabel an "unfair" advantage? Just kidding, she smashed the Women's Elite and Distance. Congrats to her and Danny Ching as well. Two dominant performances.

I touched one of the boards on the beach, and no doubt, that grey color gets super hot in the sun.

The coolest board I saw was the inflatable prototype race board. I think Scotty said he got 20th place in the Open? Where did it finish in the finals? It looked fun for surfing as well!

Not sure how it went in the elite final, but one of the French team riders Gaetan Sene paddled the 14ft inflatable in the distance race and finished an impressive 27th overall and 18th in the Men's elite class. I never imagined that an inflatable could be up there in performance with the solid carbon or epoxy boards but from all reports it's not far off the pace! Looks like the inflatable technology is improving rapidly - maybe we'll see some all-inflatable races in hard to access locations in the future?

Was going to take a couple of the boards for a quick test paddle after Sunday's distance race but I got some bad news from family back home just before the start of the distance race and wasn't really feeling like racing or paddling much yesterday. Paddled in the distance race just to get on the water, but it wasn't really my day. I've still got 10 days here in Cali and then a week and a bit in Hawaii for the turtle bay race so hopefully still get a chance to try one before coming home.

Beau was on the new 14x25" All Star for the distance race and was the first Starboard rider across the line, so it's quick!

From Bottom to top (I'm not 100% sure i've got the widths right from memory):
12'6" x 26" All Star
14' x 25" Sprint (upside down in 3rd pic)
14' x 25" All Star
12'6" x 25" Sprint
12'6" x 26" Sprint
14' x 26" All Star
12'6 x 25" All Star

Same boards, different angle (in reverse order, 2nd pic is missing the 12'6 x 25" All Star)

Thanks for the pictures Ali. Congrats on making the finals. My observation with no bias or ties to anyone; Starboard was the elephant in the closest.

It was Bart and not Scotty I spoke with. It looks like he got 16th on the inflatable in Heat 2. Put my name down for one next year.

I didnt have any scales to measure the weights but the 12'6"x25" and 26" All Stars were definitely lighter than the current 12'6"x26.5" BOP, maybe a kilo less but I'm not really sure?

Holy crap - the Race BOP was barely 10kg.
