Hi Guys,
I'm seriously considering getting a Naish Nalu 10 6. It will mainly be used in the surf and for windsurfing. Everything I read about this board is really positive; however, I have seen one YouTube clip that claims one Nalu developed cracks after a small number of surfs in relatively small conditions. Has anyone else had problems with their Nalu developing cracks? I'm really hoping not, because I don't see many other boards out there that will give me the surfing (longboard style) ability and the option to windsurf.
Thanks

I've had 2 or 3 of them and not had a problem.. I know about half a dozen friends with them and none have had a problem.. But it is a relitivly long and thin board so at my weight (almost 100kgs) I wouldn't want to fall into it.. I have heard of someone breaking one but he was really charging on it in big'ish surf.. Just wondering how heavy are you?
I've got 3 Nalu's 2x11' 1x11.4' in our family ..all GTS one GTW..2016
2 are 2015 model ...all good ,no cracks
I surf mine too, also do have have other GT s which have the same construction
all good there as well .
good choice of board ..the nalu's are great boards.
Had my 2014 Nalu GT out for the first time (in awhile) a few weeks ago, and have been taking it out each session ever since. Forgot how good it was. Long boards with plenty of glide make SUP'ing so much fun. The rail paint chips quite easily, but that's only cosmetic. No dramas apart from that..
Thanks David,
I'm also 100kg. I've been riding an 9 5 Allwave for the past year or so and am very happy with it, but I think it's time to move on to something less "boxy". Part of me would like to move on to a SUP with more of a short board orientation, but I know my limitations (age being one of them) and really like the idea of a more 'stylish' ride. I expect it will take a little time to get used to a narrower board, but I noted from one of your other posts that I should not take too long to get used to this. Thanks again for your feedback.
Man am I envious of your quiver. Must be great to have other members of the family involved in SUPing.
Thanks for the information, feeling more reassured that the nail is the right board for me.
Thanks also JoffaDan and Rodriguez, with all these responses I'm feeling that the Nalu 10 6 will be a really good option for me. Does anyone windsurf their Nalu?
At 100 kgs I'd be recommending the 11' Nalu over the 10'6" Nalu..
Not because it's 6" longer but because it's an inch wider..
David,
Had not really thought of the 11' Nalu. My first thought is might be too cumbersome in the surf, but now you have sown a seed I will definitely give it more thought. In the past I have thought that a 31" wide 10' 6" Nalu would have been perfect, but obviously they don't make them. Also, have just watched YouTube of 11' surfing and it looks like a nice ride - albeit in very full waves. Will see if I can demo the two side by side.
Thanks
I've had a quick look at the Sunova and think they look like a very light, strong board with a great shape, but if I'm looking for a board I can put a sail on it may not fit the bill.
Thanks Colas,
I'm 52 so I take your comments on about not wanting to go too narrow. This may also fit in with David's recommendation of looking at the 11'.
Thanks
Thanks Gafas, didn't know that, will definitely go and check them out. The do look like a good board.
The boards I heard had a problem was the Naish Nalu LE 10' 0"
I liked the look of them and they ride really well performance wise.
I was going to buy one but was warned they had issues cracking/breaking mainly in larger surf.
I have a Naish Nalu GT 10' 6" which was my first board and still no problems but I dont windsurf it.
Nalu 10 LE looked perfect for me, then i looked at price.
who makes similar board - laird ? i already have 10 6 laird but want something smaller, and lighter and slightly narrower,
i may have to go custom
Thanks Rod, I think with my level of experience, the volume of the Sunova might be a little low, maybe with some more time on a board with more volume I might be able to move onto something sub 150lt, but possibly not quite there yet if I want to enjoy my supping in a range of conditions.
Thanks
That's heartbreaking Tardy, must have been a monster wave. Yes, I'm also thinking of the GT as the best option for me, so hopefully won't end up with the same outcome.
D
Thanks Flying High,
It looks more and more like the GT is the option. My windsurfing will be pretty low key (10-15 knots on a lake), so expect the surf will put more pressure on the board than windsurfing.
Thanks
D
Thanks again Tardy,
As I consider myself a small wave specialist I don't think I'll be getting out in 5-6 ft surf, so, again, it seems like everyone is pointing towards an 11ft GT.

JB made the most honourest explanation in another post ie not all boards are bullet proof or even bomb proof so I guess that includes Naish.
My experience validates this as I have mentioned previously.
In defence of the GT .
I sold a mate my 2015 Nalu 11' ..
he carries it on the back of a ute ,,,dangerous I know but he backed out of the shed and bent the roller door .by a foot
with the board .
the board bent but stalled the truck luckily ..when he rolled forward the board when back into it natural curve .
We managed to fix it .only the top and sides needed fibreglass ..
we both where impressed how it took so much pressure .without breaking ..
Its a little heavier now ... ...but still a good board.
I reckon it was the wood and carbon strength that saved it .
