Hey there readers, looking for anyone that owns a 12' search and would care to comment on how it performs for the mere mortals, looking for something in the 10-12' range that's easy to paddle, stable in the open ocean but can still turn once on a wave. Would prefer the option of a thruster though and possibly thinking of a sunova custom search in 11'.looking forward to hearing your thoughts. PS have also considered the Atlantis Venom, any suggestion on other makes, models would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I cannot speak highly enough of the Venom. It is an absolute must for the quiver. It can handle flat water through to triple overhead. I have 2 of them and we have 6 of them between me and my (prone surfing) mates.

Awesome stuff Casso.

Don't know if I would call you a mere mortal, you certainly make everything look easy though.

Really fun to see the 12'r in full ride mode, ripping in small waves, thanks!

You may want to change the title on the video to 12' Search instead of 12'Style

I was wondering about that - seemed the nose was too pointy for The Style.

Nice vid!
Fun waves!

Awesome vid! Can you comment on the paddling speed vs a 10'6"-11'6" longboard style SUP and/or vs a wide cutting nose 12'6" race board say 29"-30" wide? Looks like they should paddle well, but I've heard conflicting reports on paddling speed. Have to ask about the rocker line as well, similar to a longboard SUP or more continuous?

this board is a gem,if you like the feeling of glide this board rips,it is just so good for what i call cross country surfing where you paddle for long distances along a beach when conditions are right surfing peek after peek, this board for 12ft and a single fin is so much fun,it is a good addition to every serious sup surfers quiver

Yeah - one of the first ones. No handle, no quad option and a bit heavier.

This ones got a handle, so maybe not your board.
Or fitted later?
Deck pad looks identical as far as I can see.
The red ones got a number behind the fin box, the blue one not.
No quad option on either

Imagine if Blane had made well constructed boards. I would still be on them best surfing sups ever designed. Pity about the construction.

Good questions, Baddog. I see Germo has praised the board's glide. (and from the sold boards on his profile page, he knows his stuff ). And obviously Casso does too.
It'd be great to hear more feedback as people get a few sessions under their belts. (Please.)

Re rocker the pic of the 14 on the Sunova site has a shot, which i cropped and rotated (by 90 degrees, even though it looks like I could have maybe done 92) ... I guess the 12 would just be just scaled down?

Then I (amateur hour-style ) cropped it down until the photo edge touched the board, just cos that helps my eye see what's what.

I guess that's part of what makes it a great all rounder.
Any riders of this lovely craft got any more info to share, please?

Yes please. More, more and more information, opinions, facts and experiences with this board.

Very interested in moving into this space to continue rounding out the quiver. Already have the 8'10" Speeed and 9'5" One.

The 12' Search looks to fill a gap that Germo sums up beautifully. Really what I'm looking for to cruise little peelers and hunt around breaks.

Cheers

P.S. Long time lurker here for first post. Always lots of good stuff here that has been a big help. Keep up the good work!

Another good option is the blueplanet bump surfer 12'6 x 28.

Being the Sunova Mascot, I currently have the 14' Search.... it is my go-to flat-water board.
It has the stability that I need in ice and snow conditions and is a breeze to knock out mile after mile in adverse conditions.
The glide seems great to me, but I am not a raceboard guy, so I can't compare to those shapes.

Although I have taken it out in waves a few times, I would love to have the 12' Search for waves and Flat-water.
I may be looking to trade down at some point, I think it would be amazing.

Yeah Jeg, I have thought about it as I already have a bump rider which is without a doubt my fav board, just not sure which way I'll go.

Take a look at the 12' Bark Excursion, if you can find one. It's very much of a surfboard gun in plain shape with a low 192l volume. It's fast, paddles straight and is super stable at 30" wide. If you're experienced with raceboards, the first thing that's striking is the lack of any windage from the nose in wind and chop. Maybe more surprising is it's quick and easy nature in flat water. Not 12'6" raceboard fast, but pretty close. The name may not fit, but it's a pretty cool one and done board.

I always wanted a 12' Search, but it's wasn't an option in the pre-container days to the states. Hard to beat the Sunova construction, but the Excursion is right there design wise with the Search and the Venom. Can't think of any others that would even be close.
