Hi Jarryd
The blade on both is 7 1/4" wide about 15" deep, depending where I measure the hosel.
I believe they are 85 square inches

The shaft is fairly stiff with just a forgiving amount of flex to keep shoulders and backs happy.

Hi STC I am looking at getting a balsa and carbon Sunova paddle which I will have to cut down. What sort of glue should be used to fix the handle. I am 169 cm and 70 kg and paddle will be used mostly in surf with my placid 8'7" so I think paddle should be around 175 cm in length when cut.Does that sound about right

5 min araldite epoxy glue will do the job perfectly. Regarding length, I cut all of my paddles to the middle/top of my forehead as I like my paddles abit shorter due to a stiff shoulder and it doesn't put so much pressure on the joint.

Done heaps of paddles over the years and never had one let go yet.

Also makes it easy to soften the glue with a heat gun if you want to go shorter down the track

After gluing the handle in wrap some electrical tape around the join.

Hi Lizardman

That's about where my paddle is... 2" over my height.
Many like it shorter, some like it longer
I cut my latest paddle at +2" so I could shorten it, if I wanted... but I am happy there.
One big reason I like extra length:
Bracing while standing around... if I us a head high paddle, sometimes the paddle misses the ocean, when I bobble as a wave goes under me.

I simply buy a small bag of "Hot Glue" sticks from the hobby store.
I use a "Heat Gun" to assemble the parts..... you can use a home hair dryer, but it is slower and not as effective IMO

Entering the US after my Mexico trip, the TSA didn't like my Heat Gun and were going to make me start the customs search line all over again, so I told him he could simply throw it away.
