Sorry, Another rant but it has to be done.

Board - Surefire J-Hawk
Size - 10'0" x 29 @124L
Construction - Paulownia
Style - Nose rider
Fin Configuration - Thruster or Quad (Tested as thruster)
Shaper - Mick Slattery

As most people in QLD at the moment the tens are getting more water time than any other. I have been primarily riding the 10x29 Newdeal but also the 10x30 Noosa and loving both boards. The Newdeal is 100% a Performance longboard while the Noosa is the perfect gentleman's board.
The J-Hawk sits perfectly in between these two and a lot friendlier on the pocket. It is a traditional nose rider with the ability to still be thrown around. It was ridden this morning in very small (absolute max, maybe 2ft on the odd set) but clean point waves. Again as with the Throwdown i tested yesterday, The first thing you notice is the comfort on this board. for a board that is 124L it's just as comfortable as a much larger board. Again, the construction is Paulownia giving the board excellent weight, flex and durability.

The paddle speed for a board that draws as much volume and sharpens right up towards the tail is excellent. At not one point was it ever to much effort to get onto a bump. Running a 6.25 centre gave it exceptional directional paddle ability and made transitioning to the nose a dream.
One thing that really stood out particularly for a board of its size was the ability to take off on rail. Coming from a shortboard background i am at times lazy and will take off late on rail. On a lot of 10' s this can more often than not result in the board rail steering and throwing people. The J-Hawk handled it perfectly...

On the wave the sharp rail outline pulling through the tail made the board super responsive with very little effort and the "pin" gave it great deep turning ability. Transitioning in and out of turns and trimming the board were super easy and comfortable and getting to the nose was a piece of cake (personal note, don't forget to wax the nose).

With the popularity growth of the 10ft market, there are a lot of pretenders out there trying to jump on the band wagon with little to no interest in the growth of the sport. Boards like the J-Hawk not only represent excellent value for money but prove that we have the crew locally that have whats best for everyone in mind.

In closing, This board is perfect for ANYONE!!! You would have no hesitation purchasing this as the family fun board that everyone can ride while at the same time it is the perfect board for someone wanting to add a 10'0" to there quiver or the crew that want performance but don't want to pay $2000+++
If you liked the original Lairds and Surftech's you will go mental over this board. It is a a Laird on steroids!!!
