To start with yes, I do sell them. This is not a sales pitch, I am simply offering my opinion of the board as i have experienced to help give those that may be interested an insight into it.
Board - Surefire Throwdown
Size - 8'8" x 29 @117L
Construction - Paulownia
Style - Performance "shortboard"
Fin Configuration - Thruster or Quad (Tested as Quad)
Shaper - Mick Slattery
This board really caught me by suprise.. Mick is a great shaper and i know his stuff is good but. The Throwdown blew my mind...
At relatively low volume for its overall size, I knew it was going to perform on the wave but what i really wasn't expecting was its paddle speed.
With small conditions and a Northerly chop its not ideal to get a good feel for a board of its style however, With the paddle speed this board has, there were no issues.
From the first contact the board was super stable even with the cross chop and was extremely comfortable. The timber construction gives it flex in all the right places and you can tell it has been designed by a shaper rather than someone that thinks because they can design a board on a computer and call themself a "shaper".
The Throwdown is one of Micks production boards and with the paulownia timber the weight is sensational. The construction is super durable and everything is in all the right places from fins to the handle.
The rail outline of the Throwdown is well and truly above what you would you would expect from a board in its price range as is its performance. with excellent paddle speed there are no issues easily catching waves and even as a quad set up the directional tracking was perfect. I was able to get onto fuller waves much easier than i have on other comparable boards.
When engaging on the wave the i found it really comfortable to move around on the board and at not one point did the board rail off or nose dive. The workable deck space of the board is unreal, you can comfortably transition to almost any point of the board without impacting on its speed or direction.
On the wave the bvoard really comes into its own... With the drawn in "pin" and perfectly placed rail angles the board produces effortless drive with ease and the way it carry's its volume allows you to control the board without being to critical in foot placement. This being said, Stomp the tail and watch it hook around...
It trims perfectly down the line and its speed is perfect. Step back and it responds, Step forward and it accelerates the way any surfboard should.
All up the board would suit anyone wanting to progress there surfing without worrying about out growing there board, Bigger guys chasing a lower volume performance board or anyone that wants to just be comfortable in the line up. As mentioned, the boards represents excellent value for money and i personally believe it will out perform its competition..
Hope this helps and if anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask
Stay stoked

Great review Salty. And I agree. Mick is a fantastic shaper that has some amazing shapes up his sleeve.
My custom 9'10" is actually a blown up Throwdown. And it's epic!! Works in any size surf. I've reviewed it before so I won't harp on too much other than recommending it to everyone!!!
