Sure length and strength of leggies has to be up of the wave power . It seems you get off the leggies's' limit most of of time. wear a Gath too it would be usefull like the strongest leggies with accurate length to your breath holding.
Take care of you , Tardy

Thanks kami..Merci. .i do have a gath but find it restricting when diving deep under waves ..but will do next time when SUP surfing with friends they are dangerous buggers ....but I didn't expect to get a board in the back of my head .while I was still moving quickly in front of the white wash wave .it must of torpedoed ....I will know to keep clear of all ..SUPS ...surf away from their kill zone ..

Sorry I was talking WA 10 foot plus surf
Duck diving is not an option. Even on a prone board.
Here's a pic of Rick...

I've got the hokua 9'10" and I use it either as a small day board or occasionally as a big wave board (provided the waves are relatively full) and there's not much wind about). The board doesn't have as much rocker as the rest of the hokua range, and when it's blowing off shore I can find it hard to get down the face with all that board. Mind you, I'm underweight for the board's intended audience (I'm 80kg). But the last time I took it out in a big swell, I only got down the face once. I'm thinking of moving it on and getting either something like the 9'0" hokua for the bigger days, or go in the complete opposite direction and go with the venom, something about it looks irresistible

Interesting Gus ..
one of the reasons I'm going for the 9.10 ..less rocker and thinner ..
the x32 are even a bit slower on windy days on the take off than say the 10,6 Nalu .
due to less rocker .
longer thinner boards usually are a bit more of a gun than say a short wide board With tonnes of rocker like the x32.
correct me if Im wrong .That s probably why it also is good in small waves, due to the easy catch of the wave .
you will find the x32 feel heaps shorter ..go for it .

I'm also going off Zeusmans recommendation ..as a good big wave board .nothing over 8. Ft
not like that 10' foot grunter over west ..what a wave .greenroom ,.I wouldn't like that breaking on my head .
you'd have to have lungs like a turtle.

Thanks for all the help .
I got hold of a 2015
9.10 Hokua ..on a few websites the Hawaiian s call it a gun .
i think it will be a good big wave board .the rocker is quite flat compare to the x32 so should be a bit faster.
It is a last years model so the price is right .cant wait to try it ..just got a Go pro ..so look out ..I hope I don't get smashed and loss everything.

I still can't get that bloody knot out of my leg rope ..teach me for putting my leggie on in the surf ,unaware it's crossed over .

Got to wet the head of my new 8'10x27 hokua le today. Surfed a bombie in the south west of wa. There were some solid lumps coming through. The 8'10 went unreal, so much control in fully loaded bottom turns. I'm wrapped. Stoked

Piros advice is spot on, I use this method often
I often surf shallow banks and if I go over the falls and nature I will try and Pearce the bottom with paddle also gives me a indication of how long a hold down might be.

I never knew the leg rope stretching caused being pulled deep makes sence and I have had my fair share of very scary blurry eyed out of breath close to your maker hold downs

Legie change coming up

I will add be carefully when diving with your paddle testing for the bottom, keep one hand covering the handle it hurts when you get it back in the nose or teeth .
