(Posted this on tail of another ACE discussion but hoping its headline will get some participation.)

I just got a 2015 14x25. Last one in to the U.S. (Thank you Chris at OneLoveBeach in Greenport NY who treated me great).

Keep hearing that learning how to ride an ACE is an acquired skill, can anyone share some of the knowledge?

What are all the secret tricks and hacks to get the most of it in different conditions(flat, choppy, downwind)?

Especially interested in foot placement and/fore aft trim in various conditions as well as all the other little tricks that has made the ACE so popular in Australia.

What type of GPS speed do you look to achieve/maintain on it with good technique (short sprinting as well as maintainable for extended flat distance races)? (of course my technique will be the biggest driver by far but looking for other ranges to shoot for)

Also anyone know what bag fits the ACE. (myFCS race bag does not)

Me:

I already have a 2013 starboard allstar 14x25 w/ gladiator fin that seems about the same speed in the flat as the ACE, but mush less stable and slower in any chop.

5'7" 175lbs / 80 kilos 48 year old. Paddle in protected harbor and bay with chop and swell. Will also use for around NYC distance race.

Got a VMG 37 Fin from Australia and it seems to have fine stability and a little less tracking than the Allstar/gladiator combo.

Good board choice. :)
I think the trick with the Ace is that you need to unlearn the way you would have paddled your Allstar in bumps.
You really don't need to move your feet much with the Ace. One foot back on a kinda split stance is usually enough to trim the board nicely. You get into a routine of kinda stalling the hoard so as not to run into the bump in front then letting it go.
The combo with the VMG 37" fin is perfect.
You will get used to the initially rolls feel but once you get familiar and trust the stability you'll really start going faster.
It is still very possible to surf the Ace from back in the tail once you get more comfortable in it.

Search king of the cut videos and watch beau the master of the ace. Will pick up tips and see just what Kieranr is talking about above.
Beau makes the ace look effortless in bumps.

Thank you everyone for the videos. Useful.

Any tips for flat water speed and how far forward to stand for the most efficient trim?
