My money's on Trev taking the #!
Can't wait for this one, Peasey puts on world class events!!!!!
Give 'em a sniff and then their dangerous
Trev is hot right now Raz! Pulling some great results in NZ.
There is a lot of talk who will take out the Pro Elite Men's Title. Combined points from the Distance Race and the Ocean Battle Pro.
Certainly Jake the snake will be there but so will Beau, Lincoln and Kelly. These 4 guys being past and current Australian Champions. Not to discount Jacko, who will not give these guys and inch and could quite easily take it out. Toby Cracknell is another one to give it a nudge. Trev will be back fresh from NZ and on fire. Then we have the internationals of Titouan Puyo of New Caledonia who is the European Champion, the Spanish paddler Roman Frejo Perez who is on the Goldy on an extended holiday and the German superstar Kai-Nicolas Steimer. Anyone of these guys can get the win along with a few others unmentioned.
The girls will just be as tight and could probably throw a blanket over a hand full aswell. Karla will be defending her 2013 title and be accompanied by the current Molokai Champ Terrene Black and the current world champion Ange Jackson. Throw Sondra Purser, Ke'ale Dorries and a couple of the Sydney lasses in and we have an absolute show!
We have only mentioned battles between the Pro Elite guys and girls but every age and category have clashes just as fierce. Looking at the old boys seeing Sydney's Johnny Engel up against the gold coast boys of Johnno Walker and Shane Lynch will be a cracker. But they're going to have to be on to keep out 68 year old Rob Eyre.
The best thing about this event that there is age categories and classes for everyone. We already have a heap of entries of the superstars along with new comers. People have set themselves goals, some have personal battles and some are just V8's on water.
Can't wait for it!
Keen for the 12 towers race. It will be my first one. Anyone got any tips for a first timer?
Hey Clarky,
No tips mate. Just go out and enjoy yourself. This is what SUP is all about. Enjoying the ocean, meeting new people, having a laugh and sucking back a couple of cold ones after the race. After all, we're here for the same thing.........the Stoke!
get those entries in.
Long range forcast looks good.
The BOP races and 'Dash for Cash' looks Interesting
What is the forecast?
Hi Andy,
Just got the long range forecast and is looking very good.
Saturday (Distance race) forecast 15-18knts SSE winds, SE swell about 2-3 foot
Sunday (Tech Racing, Open Race, SUP Dash for Cash, Relay, Prone) forecast 6-8knts S winds, SE swell 2 feet.
So hopefully this stays the same and it will be absolutely perfect conditions!
Cheers
Looking good. Hopefully I get the all clear for my back so I can race. Be my first official DW race what a race to start out in!
Can you enter on the day , with my work i dont know if ill be working or not?
Hi Teatrea,
Yes, you can enter on the day but you will save $15 if entering online. Online entries close 6pm Friday 7th February.
Cheers
IMPORTANT
*Legropes/Leashes are mandatory for every paddler of SUP and Prone in both days of competition. (Distance and Surf Tech Racing etc)
**PFD's are mandatory for SUP competitors in the Distance component. They can be either worn or attached to your waist as a "Bum Bag" style. Try your local boat shop, marine chandlery, camping stores, BCF etc, if you dont have one. (Prone paddlers not applicable)
Both these rules are the minimum safety requirements under AuSUP and Surfing Australia for all Stand up Paddle Racing sanctioned events nation wide.
Is there a course set for the amateur bop race and how long is the course?
Thanks
Hi Kickels,
Yes, there is an amateur style designed race that will be after the Technical Surf Race rounds.
This is the Open Paddle Race. There will be a series of 4 buoys set just outside the back break in a rectangular shape of about a 750 metre lap.
This will be a 3 lap race with a beach start and finish. There will be no coming in or out through the break on any of the laps bar the start and finish.
This will give you the feel of a BOP experience with the safety and comfort of an inshore paddle.
This has the most age and board class categories and will be the preferred race by the novice to intermediate paddler.
This is the perfect race to introduce any paddler to SUP Racing. Do this with a friend or a group or simply go out and win your category. More importantly, be part of the stoke!
Check out www.12towers.com for all the event information.
Cheers
are there any divisions i can win
I am putting on an egg and spoon race for you Lacey. You're sure to be one of the favourites!
Anyone had any luck getting bumbag pfd on the Gold Coast?
Tried few boating and camping shops already
Conditions are looking pretty good for both days of competition.
The Distance Race on Saturday is expecting ESE winds up to 16knts. Similar to last year without the swell. There is a small SE swell which will get us all the way to Burleigh.
Sunday's Tech Racing SUP and Prone, Open Paddle, Dash for Cash and Relays forecast is ideal. With magnificent Burleigh Headland protecting us from the SE winds and only light at that, small waves will give the competitors and spectators alike an exciting view of what SUP racing is all about.
For those first timers doing the open race or the guys and girls advancing to the Tech Surf Race, just being part of the whole SUP experience is exciting in itself.
Get out there and enjoy yourself.............no other better way!
Just letting you all know the Distance Race will be shot from the air . The Von Piros film crew will be shooting from a real Heli for about an hour over the race so get your sponsors logos slapped on your boards and pimp away. Rambo will be shooting from the water and both our footage will be combined to cover this world class event. This video footage will be available here and going straight overseas to promote the event for next year as it really is attracting alot of interest.
Conditions are looking good , no excuses just enter and join in the fun of it and get your melon in the video promo

if squeeky gets the spaceship here's a tip -wash ride him.
that board gives of the most amazing wake to ride i've ever had the pleasure to paddle on.
after paddling pretty strong on thrusday at training i'm toying with the idea of doing this race, sitting at the back of the pack so i don't get tempted.
depending on how conditions suit me tomorrow

sure can , i hope you have have good balance
I think that Teatrea needed to stand forward a bit more to reduce the drag!!!
I was going to mention it to him but I was puffing to much to talk!!!
But when he did put in an effort it seemed to get up and go pretty quick.
Spewing my Helicopter ride for tomorrow just got grounded due to extra jet star flights taking up the air space . Still might be on late call waiting for clearance from Cooli airport
The open paddle is on at roughly 1130 do I need to to be there between 7-8 for registration or can I get there at say 9?
Thanks
