These "Tomo" designs can be ridden with a very low volume. At 100kg, I feel confortable on my 105 liters "tomo", better than a 120 liters traditional "pointy ends" shape 1" wider. And I had a hard time getting used to a 115 liters one, although I can actually take waves on a 85 liters 27" wide board (but it is not what I call fun).

Actually, a low volume board seems less sensitive to chop, as it is lower under the moving surface.

But, with each liter dropped, the paddling speed takes a hit. So even, with a wide nose shape, you can go lower than 120 liters, you will feel that you have a sea anchor on the tail. Not really an issue for somewhat late drops ("somewhat" because even a sinking SUP has much more volume than a shortboard), but early gliding into a wave will definitively not be the same.

For instance, I like some volume for mellow waves (120 / 125 l for 95kg), the difference in speed in the ride is noticeable compared to a 105 boards, and speed in weak waves open up a lot of possibilities rather than staying glued to the curl.
