Hey Breezers,

just wanting to find out about the surf in the Adelaide area. Yes I have already heard that it's a white pointer meet and greet location, just after some more information regarding surfing, actual sightings, safety etc etc

Legit answers please :) I wouldn't expect anything less from fellow suppers, its not a SB forum

Thanks in advance

Quite clearly legit answers can't be given in regards to Adelaide surf....it's a joke but does happen occasionally. SUP's are the best thing to happen to us due to the small size of swell.

Keep your eye on http://www.swellnet.com/reports/australia/south-australia/mid-coast and check out the pics to give you an idea of what we face.
Luckily, Victor Harbour is less than an hours drive South and always swell but the wind is the killer.

Lately it's been basically non-existent swell with stiff SE winds. Down wind runs on the north beaches have been plentiful, surf not so much.

I live on the mid and there is always something to do if you have a few different board lengths.

Check out Onkaparinga River mouth via the below link and click on Google Images. The beauty speaks for itself. The cliffs can offer some protection from the SE winds when there is swell the crowds on a tiny peak it basically rules out the SUPs.

Sharks....well yeah, they are everywhere. We seem to be having less trouble here than other states of late. Most surf spots on the Mid are very shallow which may assist keep numbers down...I did say MAY....

Probably one of the better days on the Mid with most of the main breaks working

There's a swell net cam on those white houses just left of centre shot. it has a pretty good shot of the surf too.

Yeah 1-2ft is about it sadly. Couple of times a year it will hit 3ft but what you need to remember is that we have a big island in the way of the gulf blocking most swell directions so it can be very limited.

I lived in Adelaide for 3 years. Very first visit to the mid coast it was 3 - 4 foot, 6 to 8 wave sets, points all lining up. I thought to myself, 'I may not miss Vicco waves after all'. Never saw surf like it on the Mid again. You have to head west of Adelaide to find quality waves. The sharks get bigger out that way too!
Although I agree with the comment that SUPs will have made life much more bearable for Adelaide surfers.

FlyingKiwi,
the southern metro area has great waves for sup, but the summer months can be a bit lean. Plenty of options within 3 hours of Adelaide.

When are you coming?

Check out SASupcrew Facebook page, you can find someone who's paddling on the day, friendly bunch.

Otherwise PM when you get here and we'll try and point you in the right direction..........nah not back to Qld

hahaha awesome thanks :) I am being flown south this sunday for a job interview, I guess the rest will unfold from there. Guess I better think about getting another 12'6 in the quiver too if surf is far between, although I guess Melb's is a "short" drive away lol

Get a minion, 10ft wave board and a 14ft race board and you will have all options covered down here.
No need to drive to Mexico, Victor Harbour area and Yorkes will be all you need.

In Adelaide you need

14Ft Downwind board
Minion (Mid coast and Victor)
Performance Sup for anything West

The sharks in Adelaide are fine no problems at all (as long as your in a cage)

I did a flight alone the shore line, absolutely stunning, didn't see any submarines with teeth luckily, there were people swimming and all. Just waiting on the jury to decide if I am better suited to a position in Vicco or SA...

I have no idea what any of these clowns are talking about. Nothing to see here. All fish and wind.
