G'day all, I have a group of mates who all surf together on the Gold Coast, we are planning a surf trip away next year in July and Samoa is on the radar, can anyone give us any advise on SUP in Samoa. At that a time of the year someone suggested Samoa can be very fickle and the trade winds can be a problem. There will be around 8 off us, we are mainly lonboarders & SUP so not looking for anything to heavy, but I guess the idea of less of a crowd was looking more appealing than say Bali, would appreciate any thoughts on Samoa or any other destinations that could be suggested for a cruisey surf trip

Hi, I did a trip to Samoa in May this year, was the only SUP rider of 8, rest shortboarders. You are right winds can be an issue at that time of year, out of 10 days we had 2 days of glass & the rest was wind chop, good thing about Samoa is it takes no time to travel to the other side of the island for same relief.
No such thing as an non heavy wave there though. Its all reef & rock, having said that I SUPed every day & had a ball. We stayed at Salani, but had a look at Coconuts etc.
Cheers
Hi Mark finally got the link to this place www.papatura.com/ in Somoa. It was set up in 2007 by the Gold Coast Blanche brothers. It's been on my bucket list for years. They have shown me some photos of the early years of the set up, the place looks sick. Definitely worth a look.
Here is a video of Jamie Mitchell ripping it up at Papatura Island.....
