Thinkin about a Downwinder this late arvo Mudjimba to Maroochy or Alex.
Anyone interested in doing this? Conditions will be 16 knot Northerly, very small NNE swell.
I'm not fast.
Let me know, I'll check back later.
Ok, got the missus to drive me again.
For those who have taken an interest in my progression just a quick report.
I went from Mudjimba to Alex with NNE swell and 22 - 27 knots of northerly.
Compared to my first DW'er in similar conditions, it was very different, because I didn't fall much and paddled the whole run with only about 3 rest stops.
I managed to catch some small runners, but finally got one of the big ones, what a hoot! Until I overbalanced a bit onto the right rail resulting in the board turning left tipping me off. But I got a fair run out of it, and fast! I only got one other not quite as good. I am very happy with my progress and cant wait till I get a good board. Thanks again to all who have helped!
BTW, would like a DW buddy, if there's anyone in the maroochydore area who would like to do a regular DW'er, send me a PM.
Cheers,
Ken.

Good on you Ken. You should hook up with the local club - maybe have a paddle with them one Thursday arvo at their regular Lake Kawana time trials. ( I only have a surf SUP but bump into some of them at the local beachies and they are the nicest bunch of inclusive men and women.) A lot of them are into surfing and downwinding - and I think you'd get the chance to have a quick go on some great boards. Just a thought. So yeah... Good on you for havin' a red hot go.

Hey Kenny, I was just looking on the map - that would be a great run. If I was up your way I'd definitely be giving you a call. The reverse run from the mooloolaba river on a southerly looks even better.
I can't imagine not falling off in that sort of wind - nice work. I counted up how many times I fell on a 6km run a week or so back: 16 times! unfortunately the gopro doesn't lie. One thing that Al pointed out to me when I went out with him was that you definitely fall more when you're tired. Obvious really, but not something I'd actually thought about. I think going at your own pace definitely helps.
Kenny, I chatted to you in the river mouth one day not long after you'd done your first downwinder with some of the guys from the SUP club. Ferocious conditions by the sound of it.
If you're on Facebook and join either the "Sunshine Coast Stand Up Paddle Club" or "Buddina SUP Fitness Training Group 2013" you'll hear about plenty of downwinders happening. I did one on Sunday morning with 3 others. Two of us girls started out at Cotton Tree pier about 20 minutes before the boys, and we ended up almost at the same time at Mooloolabah beach. Strongish northerly, and a large a cross-swell made it a good challenge. At the end we all swapped boards - bit of a Lahui Kai love fest - then had breakfast together.
