I'm looking at wearing a waist belt system for the BOP like Karla does. If you go on line there are a few available in the US. The river guys use them. I'm looking to use the waist belt just to make the run sections in the BOP easier but will stick to the ankle while surfing.
also the fact your leg rope also reduces in length from your hip to your head ............i know what yr thinking get a bigger leggy .......also ,, fact, the spring starts that close to your head, if the board does come back at you it has a far greater chance of taking you out and it will also interferes with your swimming
.......stupid idea.......but hey ...... stupid works for a lot of people especially down winding crew,,,spose its ok to stop water drag if your into paddling flat out for 3 hours

Will it guarantee that I BoP as well as Karla does?
Got to try out my Leashlok belt and leash in clean off shore metre high peaks yesterday. Took a few on the head, bailed when caught inside sets, the usual wipe outs, fell off the nose when I blew the take off etc. The system worked fine, never felt uncomfortable. I had less tangles around my feet and never had problems with my paddle catching the leash. More importantly it has obviously taken the stress off my buggered right knee; which is the reason I bought waist belt. To be fair I probably wouldn't have considered a waist belt if I didn't have knee troubles. If you're interested Leashlok Hawaii has a good website with all their products.
Thanks for the report.
Did you feel it pulling hard on your back? Did you feel it could pull hard enough to hurt your back? That is my (and many others) biggest concern.

No discomfort to the back noticeable, it didn't feel like a hard pull at all. Odd feeling at first as your body moves around to adjust to the position of the leash and board. But as pointed out in the Standup Zone posts the length of time the board was pulling on the leash seemed shorter than with an leg leash - not sure how the mechanics of that works. Remember the sets were only a metre, offshore but not barrels - still a bit of thump to them and the board is a 10' Mana pulling against 100kegs of me.
I wasn't run off the beach by the style police either
two different conversations going on here, one racing SUP the other surfing SUP.
as for racing sups i see the logic in this system.
surfing SUPs if you have injuries to your legs maybe this is your only chance of surfing and thats cool
but if your thinking about doing it in BIG surf,i would think again.
have any of the people wanting to try this been tombstoned.
Cobra,
Thats the point though. It IS used by guys in BIG surf. The photos of the guys in the BIG surf is indicative of that. There is some speculation
as to how this system works but really what you need is first hand experience. Am posting photos shortly with my own assessment.
There will always be good and bad in any system.
