G'day Breezers.

Heading to Bali in July and looking for a new spot to try for a few days

Thinking of giving Balian a try up the north west coast.?

Is it sup friendly? agro free?

also any close hotels / villas within close walking (with sup) to breaks?

muchos gracias amigos

Gday,Balian is pretty quiet so not much for your wife and kid,no shopping or clubs, they can hang out at the pool at pitaya pondok even if you don't stay there, heaps of places to stay and majority walking distance to beach.balian picks up more swell so peak season July it might be solid, usually less crowded unless Bukit peninsula is small then everyone heads up there, its about 2-3 hrs from Legian so leave early to miss traffic, early meaning 5am.once there ,if theres waves you won't want to leave, its not the greatest wave but its good fun and the crowd factor or lack of it is a plus.Get a driver and head up into the mountains for the day its beautiful and some great vistas,if you have a couple of flat days go snorkelling at manganan island right up the top its epic.Airbnb is a great site to find villas and prebook online,i stayed at Olivers which was really nice, has common kitchen and pool, walk to beach, classic syle bungalow ,only drawback is it doesn't get the sea breeze but not really an issue.Medewi to the north is also good.

We stayed in Balian last May, four of the guys on our trip took SUP's , We got out early morning at first light and often had it to ourselves , crowd turned up and hour or so later, very cruisy spot and no agro in the water we found, although from what I have seen around Bali in general the locals don't really welcome SUPS with open arms, we had great waves for the whole trip, stayed at Istana Balian, not big , from memory maybe 9 villas/rooms and pool) run by an Aussie bloke, Michael from memory and his wife, it is up the top of the hill so might be a bit of a struggle walking a SUP up and down the hill (good 10 minute walk) , but they have 2 Villas right on the beach at the bottom of the hill which are ideal to get if you can get them, we had a group of 10 of us , so we had a couple of guys stay in the bottom villas rights at the break, stored all the boards there and then hired scooters to get up and down the road, unfortunately not much to keep non surfers interested though, some nice restraunts , so food is ok , but my wife needs the shopping and she would have been bored out of her brain, ours was a boys surf trip and it was ideal for that.
