Where is the best place to spend your two weeks x-mas holidays? In your backyard shaping bay. Just kidding, I was super stoked the first two days but did get over it as time went by, holidays have been a rare thing.
I am happy with the outcome of my 2017+ surf quiver and can't wait to test them in the surf. I took them for a paddle in the creek this arvo and they felt good, wife and kids were happy to have their daddy back??
The bat tail board ( inspired by sci-fi) is an experimental and it will be interesting to see how it goes: size 7'5 x 28''
The allround board is 8'6 x 30'' and the gun 12ft long and 26'' wide. It has a lot of rocket felt a bit tippy on the creek but I was towing the kids so hopefully that's to blame.
I better go to bed and get some sleep, tomorrow is a big day??
That's brilliant mate well done..!! The all-rounder looks the goods loving the step deck, would be keen to hear how they go?
Great looking boards. ??
Holidays well spent if you end up with a useable and hopefully ripable quiver I reckon!
Huge effort with great looking results.
Let us know how they go. ????
I love everything about this, not only did you make the boards from scratch but also the shaping bay. Tad risky weather wise but that's what makes it great, your an inspiration mate.
Super Impressive. The boards look great Keen to hear where you sourced all your materials etc...well done again and I imagine you have inspired others.
I used the R180/H180 epoxy from FGI (now Nuplex).
2 x 6oz carbon twill cloth top and one bottom.
The gun has four 25mm deep unidirectional carbon inlay stringers along the rails top and bottom, carbon cloth wrapped around the rails plus the stepped deck so pretty strong. Won't say unbreakable because that's what they said the Titanic was??
Hey mate they look the goods where did you get your carbon from ?
Hey mate, got a roll of carbon cloth directly from China and used Alibaba to source it, a lot cheaper that way

The "shaping bay" worked really well! Working with styrene can be pretty messy but ok with the help of a nice breeze
Hey mate!
Boards look awesome, going to try and knock one up soon
Can I ask where you got the deck pads from
And also what density foam did you use?
Thanks

Hey mate, the EPS density is M grade. I got a half block (2500 x 1200 x 600) from RMAX Sydney. Some Chinese trading company supplied the EVA foam deck grips. They come in 2200 x 650 mm sheets and have a 3M backing, the quality seems to be good. I shaped the tail kick with black EVA foam
totally impressive--love the air flow in your shack!
and your scale, making three at once--all of em gorgeous!
rip dem stix!

and ima steal your criss-cross rail repair saw-horse rigs (the ones holding the raw gun blank)--very slick---you are clearly a master of simple, appropriate technology
Such a perfect hand job on this classic quiver , how do you so clean finish cant see any mosquitos " sin scrupulous" stuck in the resin!
hat on
Those shapes look unreal, but I'm not real keen on your disposal methods for eps foam, mate. Hope you're taking the p1ss, otherwise pretty b-grade.
Such a perfect hand job
Giggity.
Thinking twice what did I wrote, I never mean that but that's sound fun to me anyway.
I was thinking if CNC job is worthing its money when there is a so clean handy work using classic tools as hot wire or planner both of those tools hand pulled as Woodandwater made. He did it with enough precision by hand which make me thinking that if shaping art does really need a computer work.
My question to Woodandwater is : do you use a CAD program to design your boards
For example here my latest project does really need a CNC or do I have to hand shape it after getting the templates from a CAD

Hey Kami, I used AKU shaper to design the board profile (rocker) and used the the printout as template to Hotwire the blanks. The gun outline was a printout as well but the shorter boards were outlines of boards I had previously built.
The actual shaping was all done by hand (power tools). It probably would have taken me longer trying to design it on the computer then shaping them by hand
I'm not sure what it costs to get 3 boards shaped on the machine + shipping the blanks (without getting damaged) but I'm sure the "hand job" was a cheaper.
Ok, the channel depths could vary by 1-2mm if hand shaped and the outline might not be 100 percent symmetrical but will that change the boards performance? In my opinion not.
But what I do know, if a hand made board surfs well it feels good
Hey mate they look the goods where did you get your carbon from ?
Try Soller Composites out of the US of A
i think what I'm most impressed with is how you didn't ended up covering you entire yard with eps dust! did you do all the shaping out side? great job all round though!
