i am heading to bali in 2 weeks and have 4 days to explore before staying in sanur for a week with friends. i was thinking canggu would be a good start. is there a place i can stay and just walk to old mans? any other recommendations? have the number of a good guide?
lots of questions, i cant wait!
Will you have your own gear or hire ?
Have stayed Canngu 3 times , no Sup hire. Cruizie vibe
Last time stayed Jimbaran, home stay thru Bali Sup hire , Airports Rights and boat trips out the front. Relaxed
Hey PaddleOn,
Goofy here also and I am travelling over in May. Going up to Pekutatan, staying at Puri Dajuma Villas and Medewi, staying at the Bombora Lodge. The Bombora looks out over Bali's longest Left and I am frothing to get there!!
Have been to Canngu several times but not stayed there... Is a couple of hours drive from where we normally stay but hopefully further up the coast will have less crowd as well.
make sure you have booked the upstairs rooms at bombora ,, worth the extra rupiah ,and the foods awesome
i was about to book a room at bombora and then read that that in march i should stay on the east coast. is it a very long drive from west to east?
Its a shade over 80km so yeah.... a long drive. Google gives it 2.5hrs but I reckon that is optimistic. Had a couple of formula 1 drivers in the past that could do it in less than 2 I reckon.
March is normally the better season on the East but you never can tell over there..... The winds are usually more predictable though.

You can get from Seminyak (west) to Geger (east) in 40 mins to 1.15 hours in traffic, its all about the timing.
Thanks for contributing
Yes, unfortunately this is a major problem in this region and I think parts of Bali actually end up with a lot of the rubbish from the surrounding region due to water currents etc. My last visit during the rainy season, the plastic in the water around Kuta/Legian was like seaweed after a storm.... very gross. The locals and the Beach stall guys are trying to collect as much as they can but there is not the resources for proper disposal... A lot of what is collected ends up straight back in the water I fear.
Not sure what the answer is to this, except for each individual to be infinitely more responsible for the waste they generate and the manner that it is disposed of. Some direct international assistance into developing comprehensive waste disposal or recycling wouldn't hurt either.....

what time of year were you at Jimbaran? what was average size of airport rights/lefts?
First 2 weeks September .
There is a variety of waves from waist to head high at the outer right end breaks through too bigger faster breaks as you get closer to airstrip.
WhatsApp the guys at Bali Sup Rental for more specific info for your style of Sup,ing.
My buddy who just moved to Oahu with his family owns a small hotel in Canggu. I have not been there but it looks good, worth checking out:

I stayed in Seminyak in February. Wind was onshore so not supable (if that's a word!) and water was just full of rubbish. The locals told me this is always the case for the west coast in the rainy season, and east coast is the go.
