The Be Active 2013 Paddle Challenge is organised by CWA - with a little direction from SUPWA for the SUP component.

The Paddle Challenge is on again this year, one of the premier events on the Canoeing WA calendar.
The Challenge which will be part of the official launch of the Avon Descent will take place on Sunday, May 19.

Paddle in the 2013 Paddle Challenge and receive:
1. A professionally timed event
2. A chance to win great prizes (competitors must be at the presentations ceremony to collect prizes) with $5000 in cash prizes being distributed between all categories
3. Food and drink catered by Bayswater Paddlesports
4. Your chance to win an iPad
5. A great family fun filled day - bouncy castle and other fun stuff

As you may be aware, local canoeing stalwart Joe Van Der Merwe died from a heart attack at the finish of the 2010 Paddle Challenge. It is in Joe's memory that we encourage all enthusiasts and clubs to help raise money. Donations can be made through Canoeing WA's Everyday Hero website at give.everydayhero.com/au/canoeing-wa.

Teams can register from the link above and an IPAD will be awarded to the team or individual that raises the most money. After creating your team name, share your hyperlink so donations can be raised in your team's name. Registrations have to be completed by 11.59pm on Thursday, May 16 and there will be no entries on the day.

SUP Races

The racing follows the CWA age divisions - OPen, O/35+, O/45+ and O/55+, so entries will seem a little different.

3.5km race for Male and female 12'6 and no age groups (Open only)
6km race for Female 14' and all age divisions
11km for Open (Male and Female togther) 14' and all age divisions.

Looks to me like it is 11km's but I see what you mean, there is a 18km option when you enter, I would assume that is for canoes etc?

Thanks Tightlines - attention to detail not my strong suit. I contacted the organiser just to make sure (and change my rego to 11km).

Hi Gyppo
sounds like you got the right info. The only distances are 3.5km, 6km and 11km for SUP. The other distances are for kayakers. This will be a huge event for all paddle craft.

SUP's are seen as a must have craft for the event and should be looked after well. Unfortuantely I'm away for this event
