I am very sad because my dear friend / paddle is in two peaces but I will try to fix it, but I need a similar replacement so I was just wondering if anyone knows a good / similar replacement (I need a small diameter shaft and some flex) I cut it down to about 157 cm (before it broke) and it was the best paddle I have ever used for surfing etc.:-)
Bummer.. Maybe consider a short aluminum sleeve on the inside.
I think 2 1/2 times the diameter each side of the break is the length needed.
It it's a carbon shaft, just find a local carbon repairer and they'll bring it back to good as new. Easy.
Simple solution is just to buy a ke nalu paddle with the x tuff shaft. Stuck together with glue you can heat and remove components)?
Even repaired your paddle will be not as flex as you loved it... as I'm using the same kind of paddle which is short and flexible to fit small buoyancy board as you do I can understand your disappointment about losing your favorite one. I would recommend you to find a model for a female SUPer.
My favorite one from Hobbie which remains perfectly flexible to me cut to 168 cm.
I fixed twice but was just cracks, I wrapped it 2 or 3 rolls in a 4oz glass epoxy resin damped.
Hope you can fix it. In no small way, my attachment to my paddle is at least as strong as to my board. Almost.
I broke 2 kialoas methanes in a short time. Luckily both broke near the paddle head and were years old, that being 6" over head= too long.
At the time I was a forced change to a forehead high QB which was a lucky thing.
Later I scored two paddles heads and with the cut down the broken shafts am fully paddle equipped, thanks Kialoa.
Yes I am fond of my injured paddle but I have fixed it for now, it is a quick fix for now I think, - I jammed a short bit of wood / broom handle inside the shaft and then jammed a carbon oversided bit over that and it is pretty firm and solid and should be good for small waves & as a spare I think. I will test it out very soon and see how it goes, I still want to get / buy a proper replacement. I will try to take some photos soon also :-)
