Shot from over 100 plus yards away. I edited the film to play back at 60% speed. The last wave is in real time. The waves weren't to great but the stoke was there. I hope you enjoy. **It should show up as HD on youtube**

Ooooh ... rip bowl rights - gotta love them.
Great footage. Thanks Byron.
Do you find you can't zoom in and out with the lens while recording (not smooth enough)?
Thanks guys. It was shot with a 100-400 lense. I could not zoom in and out because I had my 2 year old daughter in one arm so a little difficult.

Hi Byron,
Great video. Just wondering - are you using the Canon 7D in preference to a regular video camera because of the lens options on the DSLR? Please excuse dumb questions photography isn't my strong point.
Seems to me that the quality is amazing at that distance with a baby and a monopod - next time I'd like to see you do the same thing standing on one leg!

Johnathon hopefully my answer makes sense. I was tired of lugging two different things so decided on the Canon 7D. This gave me the option of both worlds. Also with lenses and waterproof housing I have a complete setup. I can now shoot the outer breaks we frequent and should make for awesome footage. I really was busy setting this shoot up and believe it only shows 5 percent of what this camera can do. I know the slow mo stuff plus the clarity will be top notch for the price once I figure it out. In this video the last wave is at full speed and is really clear except for the shakiness. I think the 7D is amazing for the price. I really can't wait til I figure it out.

Hey Byron thats awesome footage from a mono, is it a IS lens?
Does the IS work well with the video on the cannon?
I have shot video through a 300mm f2.8 prime lens on a Nikon d90 ( not true HD) and the quality was superb, but limiting as the subject moves closer. Also I found the IS got quite confuzzeled at stages.
I had better luck using a push pull 80 - 200 non IS the zoom was really smooth and it worked well.
The DSLR optics leave the HD video cams for dead but the funtionality is not there just yet for zoom etc.

OG it is an IS lense and that was my first time shooting video with this camera no kidding. 100 plus yards away with bad lighting. When we have a good light day and I have no distractions I am gonna really do alot better. I think I figured out the blurring for slow motion and it should be top notch. Not my effort but the camera doing it's job. I can't give a full review yet but everything I studied when the kids were sleeping tells me this 7D is awesome for the price.

P.S. You should see the long barrell for the waterproof lense. I definetly am over compensating for my size in my shorts..
Oh I forgot the vimeo playback looks way better than youtube. Only problem is vimeo takes so long to load.
