Trying to understand the performance differences between the Sunova Flow & Creek.

Looking to add/change my quiver and i really like the story/look and reviews on the Sunova brand. I currently have a Naish Maddog 8'11 as my everyday "go to" board and a JL Worldwide 8'1 for those glassy mornings. The Maddog is a great all rounder, but i am looking for something that is a bit faster and more nimble for those not so clean days. The JL is awesome when glassy and a bit bigger/heavier.

I am 85kg and a fit 53yo.

Not looking for an all-rounder type board but something that is a bit more performance orientated that will challenge my skills. I am the kind of person who will generally bite off more than i can chew and work at it.

Located on Sunshine coast and surf 99% Warana/Kawana beach breaks. 5ft is about my limit on the beach breaks but happy to go out in bigger on the points.

Which board is going to suit my needs the best?????

Sorry if this is the wrong forum.... couldn't find anything in board talk.

I've had a JL world wide and creek...

I'd look more towards an acid or a flash if it has to be a sunova...

I think you'll just be going sideways on the flow or creek.

Look for some of the reviews on the Acid.

What size board are you thinking of looking at? Go see Paul at caloundra board sports and he should be able to sort you with a few demos.

Before I conceived of the Creek, I had a 9'2 Flow, 8'10 Flow and 9'1 Acid, 9'4 Acid.
9'4 Acid was my go-to
I couldn't ride it in full New England wetsuit gear, so I tried to do a mash-up of my favorite boards.
The goal of the Creek, was to get Acid like performance, with some "stability tools"

Some highlights of Flow and Creek:

The Flow may be a bit snappier on the wall.
The Flow will be more stable at equal volume.

The Speeed tail on the Creek, gives it a sweet, tight carve and it handles size better.
The Creek is very fast... after getting it, the Flow was noticeably slower and harder to get the same performance.
When in doubt of conditions, I always take the Creek.

You fall right between sizes on the Flow
8'1 x 28.5 Flow at 100 liters
8'4 x 29 3/8 Flow at 110 liters
BUT... you will probably find 100 liter Flow equally stable as the 105 liter Creek.

Creek:
8'4 x 28.5 Creek at 105 liters
which is right at 1.3 weight to volume for your weight.
I don't recommend any smaller, as I feel it rides better at one size bigger than you might think.
But being quite a bit younger than me, you may want to question my feeling on that

Bottom line, you may find
the Flow to be a bit more shortboard snappy
The Creek a more serious performer.

James Casey seemed to like his, when he took 3rd in the Aussie Titles, on his 7'7 Creek

STC, thanks you for the feedback and advice.

I have also turned my eye towards the Placid.

I need to get on a couple and get a feel.

I was actually looking at the 8'7 Creek.

I have an acid creek placid and hipster twin . I recently sold my flow > I had bought too big for the performance that I wanted, it did everything but didn't excel in any particular area

if you only want one board I would go the placid

if you want more than what I have then add a point break, hipster 10' and a custom short tommo style ( got one of them too) ....... and start looking for a new wife

Checked your original post. For what you want - I would go creek or acid
third board (all rounder) the placid

and everyone needs three at least : damage no.1, then you don't want to be down to 'no spare'

I got a couple of sunova boards ...

i like my 8'7 placid the best ,9,1 acid if its bigger waves ..and a fast board ..down the line ..its great ...8,7 flow is a fast little board ..if your after speed as a quad ,creek is very stable they also handle big waves .
I Don't own a creek ..just used one for a while ..if you want a loose board go the placid ...at 31,5 wide its easy to ride in most conditions .but it is the slower board ,but more agile .
