I was on the train tonight going over the Yarra and I saw a guy SUPing up the Yarra past Melbourne High...
I did have a drink after work so I may have just been a bit drunk.
I saw him at 6:35. Did anyone else see him?
People do it all the time.
If you are considering it...wear a PFD as the coastguard are continually patrolling.
Legally I don't you have to but it isn't worth the hassle.
And just keep out of the way of commercial vessels/boats and stay safe.
Really? I've never seen anyone do it on the Yarra before.
The guy should have also had a light because it was pretty hard to see him at that time.
There's no need to wear a PFD any more when paddling on the Yarra river.
We used to do night paddles on the Yarra all the time.. Through the city.. then watch the fire go off at Crown.. then paddle up and under the Bolte bridge.. and on through the docklands.. and back..
All in the black of night.. There's no other water craft and the city lights are enough to see.

We run SUP tours on the Yarra River all time, it is such a great paddle on the weekends when Southbank/Fed Square is packed with people.
