Agree..sometimes the paddle, and the width, and volume of a sup, just gets in the way of the surfing experience. [and if you disagree, and you're entitled to, please don't drop in the video of Kai Lenny at Jaws].. Take a look at the normal weekend SUPsurfer fumbling around at any normal break in Australia ..they'd better off on a log....

Nup.

I could fumble around on a SUP or I could sit on a longboard and catch a tenth the number of waves (and freeze my butt off). Or do nothing, which was what I did until I went to the dark side. SUP has got me back in the water, taken 10 kg off my waist, and put a smile on my face. But maybe you weren't referring to us old buggers .

That's fantastic my friend..if you SUP around Pt Leo etc, you guys look like you're having a ball. [and not a surfer in sight] Perfect for Sup. Don't let me spoil your fun!! I ride both surfSUP(5 years) and surfboards(30 years) , the choice of which depends on conditions. I love surf SUP but sometimes a log is more fun.

Great that SUP has had such a positive impact for you. Apart from the physical side, one impact that I like, is the added camaraderie of SUPers out on the water and in the carpark...surfers get so serious and hardcore....and I don't know why.

cheers

You are absolutely correct. It is always a great vibe. I do try to get away from the proners so that I can get more waves without a hint of hassle. But I am lucky where I live, as you say, around Pt Leo. I have often considered moving up north to the sun, but there is something to be said for cold water - you are more likely to have it to yourself!
