I'm new to SUP and am after feedback re the comparison of these boards please before I commit to buy.
Have ridden the All Wave in flat water and it had a great time.
Looking to surf my SUP most of the time but still would like to have the ability to have paddle with my kids and partner on flat water. I felt as though the All Wave would do this. Yet to ride the Mana but the looks of it alone are steering me in her direction!!!!
I'm 100kg and 187cm. From speaking to a few shops and the instructor I had on the weekend have been told that either would suit. Instructor who was great leant more on the Fanatic boards given they had plenty.
Probably should give a Naish a try. Any one Demo Naish's in the Newcastle Area???

at "only" 100kg* the 9'10 Allwave would be a size or two too big for you. maybe so too the 10'Mana. I'd suggest look at 9'5 Allwave, 9'5 Mana or 10'2 JP Fusion (or even the 9'8 Fusion). Possibly also look at Starboard Whopper, or the new 11' Naish Nalu for a more longboardy feel and a bit better flat water cruiseability if that has some appeal.
(*am 189 and about 25kg heavier than you, I have a 9'10 Allwave )

Do you find that 9'10 snappy enough cartoon? thinking about coming down off the avanti. bought a prowave as something to aspire too, but need something in the middle... i'm probably about 130kg... tossing up between the 9'10 and the 9'5
At 130kg, you'll almost sink the 9'5" (like I did).
I've tried HC's Allwave and have also tried a JP Fusion 10'8" which HC has also.
HC will probably vouch for this, but do yourself a favour and try the JP Fusion 10'8". Both the 9'10" Allwave and the JP fit between the Prowave and your Avanti. The JP probably being closer to the Avanti than the Allwave. Between the two, I bought the JP. I'm just under your weight.
Jonesy1980.... the info missing to understand your needs is... have you surfed before, and just switching to SUP.... or just starting out? How do you surf? It's important to know if you just need stability, are you a ripper.... do you like longboard style...etc
Funny... I have owned all the boards in this discussion.... actually 2 - 9'5 Mana's... not the 10'
I'll hit what I think are each boards strong points.
My experience: in order of purchase.
Avanti when I was 130 k.... 1st SUP...fantastic board, super stable, surfed amazing for such a tanker. Noserides well. Hurts a LOT when it hits you. Paddles flat-water fine.
Allwave 9'6 when I was 120k. Perfect transition to a smaller board that really surfs well in all conditions. Handles well overhead waves easily. Noserides extremely well. Paddles flat-water very well
The reason that I have always been such a HUGE Allwave fan is because it makes performance surfing possible and EASY for a big, older guy (63 when I got my first Allwave) The thing that separates the Allwave as far as stability is the rail thickness coupled with concave's and generous full outline. What makes it work is the tail rocker combined with the shape of the hips and hard rails in the tail. A very important fact for me.... they have always been extremely durable. I NEVER used rail tape, never got a chip or scratch.... plus only 1 small ding in over 300 days surfing Allwaves in often challenging OH surf and rock pointbreaks.
Cabrinah (now JP) 10'8 at 120k.... surfed ok. It was a bit harder to turn than the other boards, but since I noseride everything I own... I traded it after 1 month because it absolutely would not noseride. They may have added a bit of concave throughout the board since I had one.... just my experience. Paddled flat-water pretty well....loved the look of the board.... if I was rich, I would have kept it, just because I liked looking at it when I paddled
Allwave 9'10 (to replace the Cabrinah).... I didn't surf it much, because there was no need.... the 9'6 was great in all conditions, and surfed much looser. The 9'10 was a fantastic flat-water paddler (pic of me finishing a 6 mile winter race on 9'10 @ 120k)
Fast forward a few years and many boards....
Mana 9'5 (2013) Really nice longboard type surfing, fairly stable, noserides pretty well, turns very well, but not in a shortboard manner. Paddles flat-water very well. Fast enough, pretty stable, but not near as stable as the 9'6 Allwave. The Allwave paddles straighter as well.
Mana 9'5 (2014) Much better surfer than the 2013 version.... more "shortboard style" performance. Wider, but less stable because of thinned out rails. I was very comfortable on this board in all conditions, it rail turned well, handled big waves, had good speed and noseride surprisingly well, but not in a "hang10" way. I really liked the updates. BUT... lost a lot of the flat-water benefits that I look for in my bigger boards. Slower paddler and harder to paddle straight. Felt more durable than the previous Mana. Heavy at 12.9k
@ Chuck and Mag... at 130 k, you might really appreciate the stability and surfability of the 9'10 Allwave. The newer Mana's are not even close to it for ease of use. They may surf a tad better, but the tradeoff is thinner rails and more tippyness at your size. I truly believe that the Allwave is the best "Big man" board for those who want solid performance coupled with the ease that comes with superior stability.
The 10'8 JP may absolutely be the right choice if you're surf style is a bit more cruisy, they are a really nice package if they meet your needs.
For reference...
I have a 9'6 Prowave, a 10'6 Alana, a 10'6 Laird Surfer and an 8'11 Hobie RAW.
I have ordered the 2015 - 8'5 Allwave.
Nice one. Thanks for taking the time.... i always edge a little closer to a decision after reading your posts. Cheers Mate.

Thanks for all that info supthecreek. Have surfed (poorly) in the past, riding a a 9' 8 mini mal. I'm after a long board feel in stand up. Cheers again for all the info a pics

Hey Chuck, I've been out of town for a couple of days so a bit tardy replying.
I tend to favour the 10'8 Fusion over my Allwave for the often-wind-affected, fat & mushy waves usually found at my nearest spots (see samples of DJ's surf videos, I have a cameo in one or two of them). At the same volume as the AW but almost a foot longer it has more glide for getting onto a slower wave, also with the nose more pulled-in and thinner, it' easier punching out through mush. It's all around more forgiving and cruisy than the AW, releases a bit more progressively on take-offs and I like it for that. I don't (can't) nose ride so unlike Rik (supthecreek) that's not an issue for me.
By contrast the 9'10 AW has less glide & with me on it needs a more punchy wave to get it moving. IMO it releases a lot more sharply on take-off than the Fusion (a bit like an on-off switch). Also with the fat rails it can be a bit corky in wind chop. I've been meaning to try it as a twin with a pair of fish keels in it, haven't done so yet but a few blokes in the US have with good results.
Couple of vids here but not much happening either day, mushy straight-handers mostly and I'm no doctor of style but you can at least see how they float a bloke with a few too many pies on board.
Fusion:
"Mana 9'5 (2013) Really nice longboard type surfing" Not sure about that, that board has HEAPS of rocker, can't say I've ever seen anyone ever nose ride this board. Allwave is easier to nose ride with a big centre fin.
Here is what I reckon. The Allwave initiates the turn really easily without much effort. The hugely accentuated spine in the centre of the board really helps to do this. The rail is user friendly and incredibly hard to catch-up through a turn. However if you have done a bit of surfing before I think you would appreciate the Mana. You'll find the mana (2014/15) rail turns a lot better with that lower-set tucked rail, this also helping the board to hold its own in the bigger and hollow surf too. Those without any surf experience will feel like they're ripping on the allwave harder than the mana, however the mana will let you lay it up on rail without nursing the board much.
Both are great on the flat water. I'd say the allwave has maybe a tad more glide speed.
You'l get some very mixed reviews on the stability. Very similar.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Marcel
What about the Naish Nalu 10 6?
you should at least demo it, ideal one board quiver.
Thanks Marcel for the feedback. Demoing Naish boards mid November, woooo hooooo!!
