The Hanalei fins are really popular in the kneeboard community. Has anyone been using them on surf SUPs?

With the Zig Fins,
the Mrs has a prone 8'0 fish as a Twin with 5 box's, Zig infill the other 3 hoping to give more control for her unique slower - re, dodgie coxis - pop-up .
Also am interested to know what they're like as trailer with Twins .

Getting a changing range of wave conditions at Red Beach Java,
Mrs has her custom 8'0 Fish she usually Twins,
that I infilled with Zig Fins,
later replaced completely Zig Fins. Having fun on smaller fast waves

This morning setup on Starby 9'5 Junior for small slow waves in the corner, paddle n balance training with humor, at dawn. No wind.

Incoming Picked up the runners, still no wind, so went Smik for some nose time

Veggie chicken chilli omelet breaky, incoming bigger mid banks working. Cross offshore wind picking up , swap fins to Starby for early ins with long quick along the line runs

Out going tide ,stiff wind chop with sand bar cross rip lump at outer banks with big set's. Back to Smik Hipster Twin Longboard with original fins for awhile, re fin'ed with Glide, Wayne Lynch center and grom C-drive side's to try get in earlier and for more hold on lumpy late take offs. Made some good runs right in, worth the paddle back out.

The last artistic pic is for MangoDingo.... no drought here

Overcast nowind glassy incoming midtide mellow lonely dawn peaks.
* Starby - with Hanalei twin n trailer, mellow flowing edge runs.
When it filled in and sped up, swapped center for small Sea Juice .
MD 's ... seafood special .... Dugong pectorals with fishtail ....
has potential as interesting combo , Hanalei's love movement and when I worked out to push harder earlier on turns the combo came alive. Made sections the Shorties were getting closeout on.
* Smik - on glassy high tide with Original's, getting in early for high line Nose cruising .

Leave Red Beach a little Fin lighter in the morning
A German surfer lady is now reFin'ed with Twins and Zig Fin trailer

ALEX tried these red fins , loved the difference then we added little trailer and she pretty much got everything went for, working it with a greater confidence. She has more weeks and Indo island's to enjoy so Mrs let go the reds and Zigs to keep the stoke flowing.
Ps, ALEX found Mrs 5 fin Zig setup good fun

Follow up on July Bali + Java Sup'ing fins (delayed due Tab dying )
ZigFins,
My Surfer Girl's prone got reFined with C-Drive Gromes in front with ZigFins in rear after she gifted the center ZigFins to Alex.
ZigFins were all I hoped for for her and more.
Got Surfer Girl's unique popup working quicker , with good hold across white to fun rides on the green. ( wishing I had a 5 fin Sup )
I only got one Sup go with center ZigFins in FCS adapter as Twins trailer and I wanted more. ( replacements fins ordered, working on 5 fin Sup )
ZigFins are also doing some serious stuff with Guns, running Single Zigs behind the center fin achieving stability on bigger faces. Chasing more info on this.?....

Hanalei fins,
Flowing fast smooth Q2 XL 's as Twins. Solid hold when on the nose on steep fast faces. Smooth off the tail.
Swapping them between Smik with Hanalei trailer and Starboard with Sea Juice XFM as trailer in adapter.
The XTC center was the most compatible center Lance was able to
offer at short notice. ( ordered matching trailer ) .
More to explore with these.......

Sea Juice fins,
There is something too these. I was hooked on the smaller center in the 9'5.
Loaning the 7" out to local longboarders was rewarding with big smiles, laughter and do you have bigger sizes (to be ordered ) More Sea Juice fun to be had with ZigFins / C-Drive combos

Shapers,
Never made it to the water,
and maybe never will. Wall alcove art. Graphics by Kriss @ Priority. Left fins with him while we did our intended short anti clockwise Bali roady. Over 2 weeks later We'd settled into our comfort Fin Zone's, didn't feel the need .

Quobba, Large size Yellow,
Mmmmm.... still no pics,,,,,, still with Ben..... and I didn't get to tryout. Maybe end of October for my feedback.
Ben's feedback from his first session @ Torro Torro was positive.
Had the break to himself for couple hours.
First wave court him off guard with the speed.
Steadily settled in to it , finding he needed to change his setup position and timing to keep the speed flowing .Ben is Looking forward to bigger swell to really push them.
Re-reading the Quobba post ,
Colas and others have had a similar experience , correcting with running the smaller Orange medium as a rear.
If anyone from AU is going to Bali before October and could get some Orange to Ben , Please PM me. Cheers.

Mystery Fins,
these homemade Jawa beauty's were recieved in return for loaning fins out and gifting fin screws and center bolt n plates .
The young lad who handmade these fins also shaped his own Twin Fin that he then had to take across to Bali to get glassed . He ripp's.
All their surf hardware also comes from Bali.

Cheers

Out of curiosity, I am always apprehensive to take in and out fins from an FCS setup. My thoughts are that the thread is going to go eventually as it never feels overly robust when putting screws into a plastic setup.

Looks like you would be doing plenty of fin changes with that collection! What are you experiences with longevity of the screw/fin box setup?

Valid concern.
Boards are made to a price point and skimping with short fin screws is common. Have had several 2nd boards with short screws striped at the bottom on later reveal.
Easy cheap fix with Longboard screws from your Surf Shop
or taking you screw n fin key to a Nut n Bolt / Fasteners Wholesale Shop to get matching threads with desired length. You can also get over Size if it's very striped out. Marine grade Stainless Steel .
Same goes for your center Fin bolt n plates, change these over to one Key does all hex head. Will most likely have a deeper hex head than the FCS version which is shallower and not as user friendly.
enjoy

Yes, once you experience the speed and hold of the Quobba, you tend to change your surfing to take advantage of them: you seek maximizing speed, as it was not worth it with other fins as you hit some kind of speed limit that did not let you capitalize as much on speed.

I run:
- green fronts + orange rear on boards I tend to ride more on the front foot (Gong: Small Karmen, Fatal)
- all green on boards more driven from the rear because of a wide point more to the aft (Gong Alley)
- all orange on longer boards where I use more the rail: Gong Karmen 8'4"
- quad setup: green fronts + orange rears on my wide 6'10" "fish" small wave board.

On screws, you can get grub screws that are a tad wider but use the same key, very useful when you wear the plastic threads.

Brand new second hand Quobba and C-Drive XL sides

Picked up a center adapter as all my boards have longboard style centers.
My question to all you knowledgeable and experienced Quobba finatics is....
as the box set of Quobba is supplied with FCS 2 infill kit is this just to infill or is there also hydrodynamic factors to consider ? If so will the center function effectively in the adapter ? With the gaps either end.
the rear hangs off

The front hangs over.
Cheers

The kit is just the FCS infill kit, the screws + an infill to avoid leaving a gap just at the leading edge of the fin.

I used also infills on my US boxes to avoid having a gap before the fin: just cut some strip of foam wider than the slot that you force into it. But I must confess that although it was a tiny bit noticeable on sailboards, due to their speed and sensitivity to ventilation of the fin (so you wanted the cleanest water entry), I don't think it made a difference for surfboards.

For the adapter, I used it (with normal fins) with the screw in front as using a screwdriver was a pain with the screw at the back. I don't know it will be worth it filling the gap in front of a Quobba... I guess just make a foam infill and test with and without it on the water.

All Fins have a story of an adventure,
And this Fin started my journey

My Surfer Girl picked up a McTavish with this fin , liked the shape, not the color. So I went looking for her. Local Surf Shop put me on to John of GLIDE fins . Mrs happily refined ???? and I was given a intriguing introduction to fin design and function. ?? came way with my first Fin, 8" Cutaway for my SUP.

Wave count went up , moves started to really come together, I was hooked.

I was wanting more pivot and flex. So over time on a Stapper Yellow 8.5" dolphin, increasing the Cutaway and thinning the trailing area got a fun fin for small to medium waves.

It livened the board up so much for me that I put a kicker into the deck pad

Further progression with GLIDE fins , the bottom right is a Wayne Lynch Evolution. Also have his Revolution, always one of them in travel wallets. Same with Medium PornStar 2 n 1, much traveled staple.
The big black beauty was a great anchor that fueled early nose time endeavors and big wave adventures on a so wrong board. ( NSP 10'2 )

Enter 2nd board, Starboard Widepoint 9'5 with 5 fin setup.
Found a big wave fin to go with it....

THIS was also the start of my intrest in Twins . After losing stock center and decided to continue session , loved the new feel.
There was also lots of posts at the time of Finless and agile antics

The desire to slip n slide cleaned out the stock plastics into -Nubster's ( did a 5 fin set. The ZigFins release so much better )
Pseudo Cdrives and mini Evolution / Revolution 's , very whip like. Neptune scored a good stash of those prototypes.

Enter 3rd board - 8'6 Slingshot Space Pickle. 5 fin setup.
Was after wider ass to run Twins in rear tabs like prone Twin to force shifting and keeping foot on kick pad, working the board from the back.
These Slide Fins turned up shortly after , these are spring loaded for Right hand waves. ( they do a left wave set ) . They hold for the take off and bottom turn, straight running, mmmmeellooww top turns ...BUT... if you push it... D R I F T E R

OTHER different fins fell my way.
The green TUNL , tried it on all boards. Think it needs more short board rear with fin placement to match.
Interesting theory , there is a guy in NZ doing choice wood boards with tunnels.

The Star Fin does give good hold for nose riding , liked it for longboard.
With the 8'6 this retro Cutaway D fin on waist high and down hook of the bay runners is magic carpet nose riding,

The Shapers crescent was for my 4th board,
Jimmy Lewis, Black n Blue 10'1.
Tried various fins , keep coming back to his original.
