What would be my best method of fixing this on my evoke carbon? I'm pretty confident water would be inside the board. Is there a way I can dry it out?

I've emailed surfboard warehouse as it hasnt had any knocks or anything that would do the damage. But not holding my breath.

Thanks

You must immediately begin to dry the foam. The hours waited allow the water to entrench itself in the foam, taking days to remove.

Basically, you have two options:

- drill holes around the box, dry with tissue wicks fanning out or a vacuum pump. Then re-seat the box with resin + microspheres and/org fibers + sanding the paint and layers of glass over the box. This is the easiest way if you have little experience, but drying a lot of water this way will be hard.

- open widely, remove the box, let it dry. Then re-put the box or a new one as you would install a new one, or have it done by a pro repairer.

fin boxes don't just crack like that on there own its quite clearly had a impact most like up the beach or over a rock.

Only one option to repair it properly and that is remove the hole box insert a new peace of foam and re install a new box, best off taking it to a proper repair guy that deals with a epoxy board to do the work if you have not done one before. Best thing to do is wash the board with fresh water and see if you can ease the hole box out and and get the drying process under way before taking it to a repair guy.

I have had a bad run with cracks and fin boxes lately and understand the frustration in getting water out of a board. I have had to drill holes in the bottom of the board and stand it on its end for 6 months to repair a loose handle and cracked fir box.The good thing about this is once you take the box out , the foam will be able to breathe and shouldn't take to long to dry out . Good luck with it , all things going well you can be back in the water in a couple of weeks.

Drill a hole in the middle of the tail rail and then stand it up to drain.
I have placed newspaper underneath to check how much water has come out. Place the board in the sun and leave it until no more water shows on the newspaper. With the hot temps atm it shouldn't take more than a few days,
Fin boxes don't usually break out unless forced out by an object. From the pic it looks like the front of the box is out indicating the front leading edge of the fin has hit something.
Take it to a pro ding guy to replace and colour match

Place the board in the sun

This is a recipe for disaster, you run a high risk of destroying the board.
The board should never go above 45/50C. Put it in a ventilated sunny place, but sheltered from direct sunlight by a sheet, wood panel, etc...

I hear what you are saying Colas but by drilling extra holes in your board it lets the expanding gas escape. I do it all the time and over Christmas drowned my board with a cracked box not realizing it was leaking and it drunk a ton of water. I drilled 3/ 12mm holes in the tail plus one in the nose and removed vent plug and stood it on its tail for 3 days in full sun with a bucket under it . I got a litre of water out of it . The extra heat helps push out the water. Board was fine and this is the fastest way to get water out. You want it as dry as possible before you repair it.

I tried to drain some water from an EPS cored board once with a vacuum pump once , it crushed it , do not try that IMO

You want your bard to get at 40C, this is where water becomes more mobile, and it helps draining.
But you should NOT let your board go over 50C if you care about your board durability. I would not buy a second hand board from you :-)

For instance I used a white sheet in summer. It worked quite well

Note: my "vacuum pump" does not create a vacuum. I use now a spray paint compressor, but I used fishtank pumps at the time of these photos, for a very gentle depression. A true vacuum pump will crush the board, as you can read on the Board Lady site, which is a mandatory read before trying to get water out of a board.

I have the same board with the same problem. Did you have any joy from Surfboard Warehouse?

The Evoke has two valves on the deck. Would unscrewing these be enough ventilation to allow the water to evaporate off rather than drilling a hole?

Just take them to a repair guy and get them to inspect it, they will be able to tell you if the fin has been put in properly or not and then you can decide what to do.
Just look on the website or ask the guys if the fins are reinforced with high density foam or not and make sure the whole box is reinforced not just some of it? You are better to pull the box out and start again anyway so you may as well see whats going on and the repair guy will be able to do this for you.

A fin should not just crack out and has either had a hard knock(which happens) or has just not been made right.

No, you need to drill a hole or open the glass layers close to the dent, and as soon as possible. Even if you plan to give it to a repair guy, starting to dry it immediately while waiting to go to the repair guy will save you some weight gain. You want to avoid to make the water travel into your board, as by going through the foam it will wet it and some of it will become irremediably stuck in it.

Opening the vent(s) is useful however in addition to the holes close to the dent, if you pump off them, to create a steady outbound airflow in the ding.

Be also careful to have a tank on the tube to gather water to prevent it entering the pump. A jam jar with holes in the cover for the tubes work well.

You can convert a cheap fishtank pump to a mild vacuum pump by inverting the valves. Google "convert fish tank air pump vacuum", e.g:
