Nice work CSE.
I am interested in getting a flow and currently ride the speeed. Would be great to hear a comparison.
Cheers
Bazell: The Flow is everything I hoped it would be. I have an 8'10" speeed and the 8'7" Flow. It is obviously shorter, a tiny bit wider, and 10 liters less in volume. (I am 6'3" and 90 kgs.)
Because of the shape and volume you have to paddle harder to get on the wave, and it is less stable, but on the wave it is pure fun. GoPro sucks the fun out of surf videos - my memory is much better than how that surf looked - my turns were certainly better. The key to me is that you don't have to force your foot so far back. Yes, you always have to have some weight back, but not like the speeed. So you take off and surf and have fun.
Unless I really need the stability or speed (to get on the wave in fat waves or a strong headwind), I won't use my Speeed any more.
Fun vid... looks like a great day!
Thanks STC! I have had a few great sessions lately at a place called Big Left (usually gets bigger waves than Westernport) but it was a cracker of a session.
Cool man ..more vertical moves next time please cantsupenough.
I'm trying
Mate! Looks like a fun day. I recently had a day like that and it ended up a four and a bit hour surf. Talk about wrecked, and then went out for an hour late in the arvo of the same day. Slept well that night!
Question on the flow tho, can you pump it to generate speed down the line easily? I do like the fact that it has been said that it turns more from the middle.

The simple answer (I believe) is yes.
As you can see from my standard of surfing, I am not the world's expert, but I do try to pump it. Not that it was a good example in that vid, but that was what I was trying to do a couple of times when the wave closed out in front of me - I tried to get into the water ahead of the wash to pump and get past it. But those waves did not have much of a wall to work with after the initial bit of fun. But there have been other times when I have pumped to generate extra speed.
I think it is a great board. I like its shape, and I like that it is thin. It is a tiny bit wider, but for my level of surfing it does not matter and I need some buoyancy (90 kegs, 120 ltr board). I have no idea whether the Acid (or Soul) would be better, but the Flow suits me.
Great vid & comments, did you try the 8'10 flow against the similar speeed a comparison of stability etc, as only have chance to demo speeed but prefer more conventional lines and been able surf from the middle, comments would be welcomed as not much really has been said re flow

I must admit that I debated what size Flow I should buy and I did not try a bigger Flow or a smaller Speeed. I am glad I did decide to go smaller. STC wrote a very useful post about Speeed/Flow and it may have compared like-for-like, (and I think slugga did too), but I wanted the conventional shape and I figured it would also help if I went a bit shorter. I was feeling very confident on the 8'10" Speeed even in pretty messy conditions so I knew I could afford to go smaller and I had the Speeed to fall back on if the 8'7" Flow was too tippy. For me, the 8'7" is the right size. (90kg 6'3" 54yo)

Don't be so hard on yourself. On steep waves vertical moves are easier then on slopey ones like these, and besides, in that beautiful setting and minimal crowd I'm sure your fun meter was pegged.
You're right. Although today I was out again (incredible conditions for May) and I turned on the GoPro and tried to get vertical just for Tardy. Maybe next time

I can see your a good surfer ...if the wave is slow and crumbly its hard, or almost impossible to get vertical .
It a jester....
but you are up on me mate you surf a smaller board than me .
Its great to see your videos .keep them up .the conditions look perfect .
you Shred and you know it .
i surf reef and its alway lippy .
Hey, no problem at all I was just playing along. To be honest it would probably take more than a steep lip to get me vertical, but it is fun trying. One time today I almost sort of got vertical, the wave crashed down, I did a pretty fluky 180 degree turn back down the wave - it all almost looked like I intended it. I smiled at the GoPro just for you - just for fun - but the stupid batteries had gone flat.
