I got a replacement watch from Garmin after my 6X Pro gave o the ghost and there is so much data on the Surf app on the new watch, it is fun for me to see the temp drop when I had fallen in.
Are you sure it is recording wave speed correctly, it seems to be fairly slow. There certainly is a lot of info there though.

Yep its accurate the waves were quite full being high tide and not overly big.

yep that would do it, have fun with your, have fun with your garmin. Cheers
Dave I assume that's a Garmin Fenix 7?
Has anyone got a Garmin Quatix 7 model?
And Pro's / Con's of the various Garmin models, with a focus on surfing / sup activities?

I've got the Fenix 6S Sapphire and use it for SUP, surf and just downloaded the windsport app on it for wing foiling. The speed, distance and GPS tracking are spot on. As is the new wind app. The areas where I have had less success are around wave tracking on a SUP. Sometimes, it fails to differentiate between waves and paddling in the same session. But only sometimes. Some sessions I have all waves accurately accounted for and tracked perfectly, others I come back with only a few logged. Can't explain why sessions can be so diffefent at the same location with similar wave counts. The other area where the Garmin is a little less than ideal is in heart rate monitoring. Any water between the watch and your wrist can cause a less than accurate heart rate and make it seem like you just went out for a cruise when my heart is pumping so hard and fast that I can hear it over the sound of the water. Both of these things are not a big deal, and don't bother me.
The tide grap app is also a great addition to download too. And the ability to send emergency location details to a chosen phone number and the track back facility that will take you home if you get caught out in the dark or in fog are useful if you ever need to deploy them - hopefully you will not.
I love my Garmin and the whole platform.

Hi Helmy yes it's the 7X Solar so I get a bit of battery charge when I'm out in the water, with the GPS running you will not get it charging as. Such just helps reduce the battery drain. Getting about 25 days between charged which is good in my book.

I have a heart rate monitor too but always forget to take it with me, must stick it in my car so I can see how accurate it is compared to the wrist.

Thanks Jason.
In fact the heart rate monitor was one feature that I do want to work well.
It's an age thing...and I know what you mean by hearing your heart rate thumping over the sound of the waves.
I suppose all the Garmin's use the same heart rate (wrist) mechanism, and will all be subject to the same shortcomings?
Are some models better than others?
I can't stand the chest HR monitors.

Hi Helmy
the new models of 7X and Epix watches have an updated wrist monitor that is more accurate, there was two light sensors on 6X watches but the new one has 4 sensors.
Interested to see how the new models go. Strangely the HR works better when swimming laps that when I'm paddling a SUP. And under the sleeve of my wetsuit it seems a bit more accurate too.
Heart rate info from this mornings session of 25 waves, I felt my heart pumping thats for sure and when it hit nearly 200 it felt like it, pretty accurate IMO.

I have the F?nix 6 and have had exactly the same experience as you. Sometimes it records every wave perfectly and other times it comes back with practically nothing. I would say it does the right thing about 80% of the time. Great watch though. Wrist heart rate monitor OK in the water but it produced some minutes of impossible data.I wore a water-specific chest heart rate monitor for a couple of sessions to see how hard a I was working. "Very hard" was the answer.
