Personally I think gopro is pretty cr@p unless your getting deep barrels...check out soloshot if you can get out of the city & not have it stolen

That's pretty funny, DJ. You are a pioneer of the downwind selfie art form for sure.

It's remarkable to think that when that board first came out it was one of the narrowest available. But for 2016 there are touring boards that width. I wonder where we will be in another 5 years or so. Presumably by then an adult beginner won't be able to stand on a raceboard for more than a few seconds, whereas with the board you have here, mastering it was not a distant goal if you were starting out.

It depends what you hope to achieve with your Go Pro. I primarily use it - in a basic way - to re-live the session. Of the easy mounting options, the mouth-cam gives the best view IMO:

Otherwise mount it on the nose of your board looking back. That is the best view to watch your footwork and see the path your board took on the wave (if you are surfing).

You will always be disappointed when you see the footage. The waves never look as big (thanks mostly to the fish eye lens).

A couple of weeks ago I posted my Maldives video - you'll see them both in action if you haven't seen them before. (Some of those waves were 1.5XOH and I did not fly 30' in the air - but Go Pro distorts reality.)

Hi Mick cheers mate yeah Im in mollymook nsw south coast so ften get the waves to myself or with only a few other blokes. I got given an Intova sports camera same as a go pro. I tested it with the chest starp hated wearing it and the angle was **** facing down so need to try something else.

Hi CantSUPenough

Cheers mate ill check those video's out I just want some good action clips on some waves really nothing to fancy its a shame mounting it on the board makes the waves look smaller. Ill check your video's out.

I usually use the gopro handle bar mount on the paddle shaft the trick is to put ot about halfway between the blade and your bottom hand so your not filming in the wave when you plant the paddle and use superview so your not just filming your armpit done that before lol. Ive also made up a 360 mount for a helmet the results were cool but you look like a nob wearing it

Also dont buy the $6 Chinese mounts they snap really easy and the screws aren't stainless so they rust real quick also always tether your cam with the string to the pole or whatever your mounted too string to a zip tie works well and you can tape it down so it doesn't flap

Sounds like a soloshot could be the go then mate...just bear in mind that it is basically a tripod that follows a transmitter strapped to your arm. You also need a decent camera to mount onto the soloshot tripod. You would want to find one located in Australia, as postage cost from the US is a deal breaker. I paid $400 for mine which included postage from Qld to WA. I have heard of deals for $500 that include postage & a recommended cam corder. You want a camera with battery life running for as long as you might surf. I'd suggest at least 2hrs. I use a Panasonic Lumix FZ150 (new FZ200 is good too) which has great battery life & auto focus...There is a soloshot 2 now which also pans up/down. Useful if your filming from a significantly elevated position, but otherwise a soloshot 1 does the trick for a whole lot less $$$

I've just got the one SUP vid surfing my old Sunova, probably make more this summer on the Starboard 8'10

Hey mick cheers i might look into that down the track. Putting the $ away for a 2nd board at the moment. Really want to try the Naish raptor they look like so much fun. How far back did you have the camera set up? Classic with the seat funny stuff

Just ebay handle bar mount. Ive tried the clamp style too they are just too bulky. You can get genuine ones at most gopro stockists - jb hifi ect I've snapped these ones too but at least they dont rust .but you can buy 4 ebay to 1 oem.
