Has anyone put some sort of grip tape on paddle? In this more humid weather I am finding my bottom hand slips on the paddle. Was thinking like a racquet type grip. What would be the cons? Cheers

I use soft grip hockey tape. It works great and is easy to apply and remove, and lasts well. The only downside over the dedicated stuff is that if you leave the grip wet in a humid place it can get to niff a bit. But if that happens you should rinse it with cold water after use or just scrub it with a bit of soap. It doesn't happen often here in the UK because it's mostly cold outside, and I keep my paddles inside so they dry out.

I've tried the dedicated paddle grips but the ones I tried are quite aggressive on the hands and they are pretty tricky to apply well, and remove when worn. I much prefer something easier to change and that is nice and comfy. Hockey tape gives you a longer grip area too, which is useful if you like to choke down on the paddle. Hope this helps.

I use the clear Versa Traction paddle grip (versaworld.com/), it doesn't absorb water, works a treat and actually has more grip when wet.

You can get it them from this guy who is based in Sydney I think shop.balsasurfboardsriley.com.au/index.php/peel-n-stick-clear-traction-grip-468.html

By the way I am in no way associated with Versa Traction or Riley Balsa Surfboards, just a user of a good product.

Try applying a bit of warm water surf wax, which gives you some extra grip. No issues with peeling or water. Works well for me.

A lot of the shops sell this, it's got the 3M adhesive on the back, I've got in on my paddles and wouldn't be without it now.

This guy will even show you how to put it on

Two other options:

Electricians heat shrink tube or my favourite, paint some epoxy resin where you grip the paddle and then wrap it with some nylon cloth (Spotlight have it), let it cure and then peel the nylon off. The epoxy leaves a very slightly abraded finish. Not too coarse, not slippery.

I used windsurfing boom grip , did full shaft . Soft and grippy on hands (almost like it was made for it ) ,also protects board when falling and climbing back on

Just get a Kenalu paddle. Best thing I ever got.
The best paddle out, super light, super strong, great catch and best of all a shark skin type of texture to the shaft which gives great grip. I paddle holding with just my finger tips on my button hand.
