I'm early 50's, 186 (6-1) and a tad under 95kg when I'm wearing a PFD and I've had a swim!
I've paddled for a number of years, initially on a Fanatic HRS 12-6 x 30.5 and recently on an iSUP 9-8 x 32 and I paddle for fitness and recreation and don't plan to race competitively. I'm after help choosing a SUP for Perth's river paddling (and occasional ocean).
Perth's a windy place and I would like to be able to paddle easier into the wind for paddling loops, the occasional wave ride back and also catch some boat wakes. Most of my paddling is on Perth Water (city foreshore) or around East Perth. I also paddle occasionally from the Narrows Bridge and, if I can get a lift and the wind is "good", up or back to Point Walter.
Can you make some recommendation on current and recent models that I should consider.
Thanks
Naish 14' glide can't go wrong
Yep that's what I have and it's great as long as your not racing, lived in Perth for along time so I know what your up against and it will serve you well.
I am early 60's and same height and 90kgs.
I paddle a 14' Naish Glide in flatwater and the Ocean. Anything from 8km to 20km.
I never intend to race and never would even consider racing. tahts for other people.
For my type of paddling this is the best all round board. it is stable, relatively fast, easy to get into swells and even surfs a small wave well.
ET.

I noticed reading the Merimbula 2017 thread that Nozza has picked up a Sunova Search (12') - the website indicates it does a bit of everything too. Has anyone experience of the Sunova Search or a Yob Downwinder.?
I'm guessing that the Atlantis Venom. another 12' allrounder would be a tad too narrow.
Thanks
Hi
I actually took out 12 foot Venom in tidal waves with strong wind yesterday and was essentially doing a mix of paddling up wind , then surfing and down winding - repeat. Essentially mini downwinders or as I term it "Downsurfing".
The Venom is so versatile . At 64kg I find it super stable. It was really windy yesterday and heaps of chop and the nose kick was of immense benefit in ensuring that I didn't nose dive on downwind run

Thanks Gboots,
This is one of the things I would like to be able to do on my new SUP- upwind and then downwind. I've done this a few times in the river and ocean on my surf ski when I've paddled solo.
I'm a tad more than 64kg, so not sure if the Venom would be as stable for me!
hi Alistair.I'VE got a few boards ...12, 14,11.4 ,....i paddle in wind also .
and the best size for this is a 14 ,at least you will make ground ,and down wind with EZ
i have naish boards ,but thats the size i would target ...14/28

Hi Alistair
You mentioned that the website says the Search "does a little bit of everything"
I made a video for you, but started another thread, so it wouldn't hi-jack yours.

Thanks Tardy, you're agreeing with most of the people who have offered their advice
I was just checking that there are no shorter options.
