Dared to live a life many of us only dream of, and highly underrated for his contribution to simply getting people out on the water

100% agree. Probably the original "waterman". Joint founder of the foam core surfboard, top 3 in world for tandem surfing , designed polyurethane wheels for skateboards and of course his design of the biggest catamaran class in the world, the hobie16.
Interesting to read the Naish family and Gerry Lopez all had links to Hobie in the early days.

A great read, only recently published biography
" Hobie, master of water, wind and waves". By Paul Holmes

Spent a fair bit of the 90's racing Hobie 16's with my son - some of the best memories I've had on the water. Fantastic contribution in so many areas and his legacy lives on even in SUP.
